Celtic are interested in signing the New Zealand international winger in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Celtic FC Roundtable Round-up: Martinez or Askou? Injury doubts vs Rangers.

The summer transfer window is going to be a big one for Celtic. Over the course of the season, it has become very clear that the squad has stagnated and is no longer good enough to be the dominant force in Scotland. They have barely gotten past most teams in the league and find themselves in a three-way title race with Rangers and Hearts, with nine games left to be played. Do not count Motherwell out of it completely either.

No matter how this season ends for Celtic, the aim must to be strengthen the squad significantly in the summer. They were not able to do that last time around, and have paid the price for it.

One area Celtic are expected to be looking to strengthen is on the flanks. Michel-Ange Balikwisha has failed to meet even minimum expectations and is no longer even making the bench, after his £5 million summer move from Royal Antwerp. On the other hand, Daizen Maeda's form has dipped considerably and he is expected to finally complete a Parkhead exit in the summer after four-and-a-half years in Glasgow.

So, Celtic could end up signing a winger or two this summer. And interestingly, one from Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell has caught their eye.

According to The Celtic Way, the club are interested in Motherwell winger Elijah Just. Shaun Maloney has begun work with the recruitment staff on identifying potential targets and scouts have placed the New Zealand international under scrutiny.

Just is 25 years old and has been one of Motherwell's standout players in this campaign. He has scored six goals and provided six assists across all competitions so far.

While known mostly as a winger, he is capable of playing in the middle of the park as well and has often done so this season for Motherwell. Interestingly, their manager, Jens Berthel Askou, is also said to be on Celtic's radar, as they will need to replace Martin O'Neill in the summer.

Of course, signing a Premiership-proven player might be a smart move on the part of Celtic. The club have often chosen to go out and bring in players from other leagues, but their recruitment record in recent times has not been anything to write home about.

At the international level, Just is proven as well. He has played 40 times for the New Zealand national team and scored on 8 occasions for the Kiwis.
