What are Celtic missing at this point in time? Well, to be honest, a lot of things. But their biggest hole might be up top. Without a consistent goalscorer, the Hoops simply don't have that fear factor that they usually do domestically.
In fact, their most consistent goalscorer this season has been Benjamin Nygren, who has played in the middle of the park for the majority of the campaign. While it is great that the midfielder has that ability to find the right spots, the Hoops cannot continue to rely on him to be the main source of goals.
The club do have a few strikers on their books, but none of them is performing at the moment. Kelechi Iheanacho has struggled with both form and fitness. On the other hand, Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu, both signed on loan from Bundesliga clubs in the winter, have never really convinced in a Celtic shirt.
As a result of their lack of a quality goalscorer, we have seen that a lot of teams, even those near the bottom of the table, have taken Celtic to their limit this season. The Hoops have often had to rely on late heroics and moments of individual brilliance to escape with narrow wins.
Fans will be hoping that they are able to continue to do that for the remainder of the campaign. But in the long run, this is never going to be sustainable.
So, one would hope that Celtic go out and sign a consistent goalscorer or two this summer. One on their radar is currently playing in League One.
According to Football Insider, Celtic are keeping tabs on Lorent Tolaj with a view to making a move for the Plymouth Argyle striker in the summer transfer window.
Tolaj is 24 years old and is currently enjoying an excellent season with Plymouth Argyle. He has scored 18 goals and provided four assists across all competitions.
Of course, a lot of fans won't be convinced due to the fact that he plays in League One. It is worth mentioning though that he has decent goalscoring record pretty much where he has been.
Tolaj scored 21 times in 48 appearances for Aldershot, 16 times in 46 games for Port Vale, 21 times in 34 appearances for Brighton U18s and 8 times in 4 games for the U19 Switzerland national team.
A move to Celtic would be a jump in quality, that is for sure. But perhaps Tolaj is the type of natural goalscorer that the club need right now.
