The Celtic player quietly broke an all-time SPFL record in the recent game against Motherwell.

Not many Celtic players will get a passing grade based on their performances this season. There is no question that the squad has gradually deteriorated over the past few years to the point where they are not clearly better than even Scottish opposition.

Yes, Celtic have been getting results under Martin O'Neill. But most of them are narrow wins, as they have had to depend on late heroics and moments of individual brilliance rather than blowing teams away.

That was very much the case against Motherwell at the weekend too. The Steelmen are arguably playing the best football in Scotland at the moment. There is enough reason why Jens Berthel Askou is being linked with the Parkhead job.

For large parts of the game between the two teams at the weekend, Motherwell looked like the better team. That was until they conceded a penalty and had a man sent off.

Celtic managed to go ahead from that penalty, with Tomas Cvancara making no mistake from the spot, just like he did not at Ibrox. Then, Yang Hyun-jun scored the Hoops' third of the day and his own second to put the game to bed.

In the process, Yang also made some history. He became the highest-scoring South Korean player in Scottish football history, overtaking former Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu.

Yang has been one of the rare bright spots for Celtic this season. For his first season-and-a-half for the club, the South Korean had not done much of note.

He did show glimpses of his quality in the second half of the previous campaign though. That had not been enough to convince Celtic and Yang had actually been on the verge of making a move to Birmingham City in the summer, and had even travelled to England to complete the transfer.

Fortunately, it did not end up happening. Of course, Yang could have so easily allowed his shoulders to drop on the back of that collapsed transfer exit.

On the contrary, he has taken his game to another level. He has already scored eight goals this season, his best output in a Celtic shirt, and he is a nailed-on starter for the club right now.

So, his exit collapsing has turned out for the best, for pretty much everybody. Let's hope that Yang can continue building on his form and remains one of Celtic's most important players for the foreseeable future.
