Ajax are working on a deal to sign Lutsharel Geertruida, with PSV Eindhoven also keen on the former Feyenoord defender.

Can Michel Sanchez succeed at Ajax?More Videos

Ajax have already signed six players this summer, and there could be five more arrivals before the transfer window closes, though much depends on departures.

Paris Saint-Germain are working on signing Mika Godts, and negotiations are expected to advance in the coming days. Ajax are demanding around €60 million, potentially more, and various reports expect PSG's next offer to be around €55 million, including bonuses.

Should Godts depart, Ajax will sign a new left winger, with Noa Lang high on the club's shortlist. Michel Sanchez also wants a new right winger.

Ajax are also working to sign 19-year-old left-back Jofre Torrents from Barcelona. A new right centre-back could also be signed if Josip Sutalo and Ko Itakura depart.

Ajax working to sign Geertruida

Ajax are now working on a deal to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from RB Leipzig. The former Feyenoord defender spent last season on loan at Sunderland, but has now returned to the Bundesliga club.

According to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, Ajax made an offer on Wednesday evening to sign the 26-year-old. PSV Eindhoven are also interested and want to sign Geertruida on loan, but Leipzig's preference is a permanent deal.

The report De Telegraaf claims that Ajax have made a loan proposal, but if Godts is sold, Ajax may be able to make an offer of €18 million for Geertruida.

According to the Eindhovens Dagblad, PSV have reached an agreement on personal terms with Geertruida. While PSV are only interested in a loan deal, Ajax have, however, not ruled out a permanent transfer.

According to Voetbal International, Ajax see Geertruida as a versatile player who can play as a right-back, centre-back, and even as a defensive midfielder, although Ajax would prefer to sign a specialist for that position.

Geertruida would be an ideal signing

Geertruida's versatility would make him an ideal addition to Michel Sanchez's team.

If Sutalo and Itakura depart, Ajax's only two right-footed centre-backs would be Aaron Bouwman and Dies Janse. Both players are more than capable of starting games in the Eredivisie, but they are young and inexperienced. Geertruida would provide Michel with an experienced option in that position.

Ajax are also said to want a right-back who can stay deep and become a third centre-back in possession. Geertruida is excellent in that role. His ability to play in midfield is also valuable, but it is crucial that Ajax sign a specialist in that position.

The signing of Geertruida would significantly boost Ajax's chances of winning the Eredivisie, and if Ajax can agree on a fair and reasonable deal, it is definitely a transfer they need to complete.
