Kevin Hofland hails Armando Obispo’s defensive dominance and Guus Til’s predatory instincts as Peter Bosz’s side showcased individual brilliance despite a frustrating stalemate at the Philips Stadion.

Kevin Hofland has singled out Armando Obispo, Guus Til and Ruben van Bommel for praise following PSV’s 1-1 draw against Feyenoord on Sunday afternoon.

Peter Bosz’s side dominated much of the first half at the Philips Stadion but failed to build a decisive advantage. Til put PSV ahead, only for Anis Hadj Moussa to equalise shortly after the restart and give Feyenoord a foothold in the contest.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, former PSV defender Hofland highlighted three individual performances that caught his attention, with Obispo earning particular recognition for his development.

Hofland Impressed by Obispo’s Progress

Obispo has taken significant strides forward, according to Hofland, who praised the defender’s mentality and his performance against Feyenoord striker Nacho Ferri.

The PSV centre-back stood firm in his defensive battles and helped limit Ferri’s influence, while also coming close to scoring himself. Obispo struck the outside of the post with a header as PSV looked to extend their lead.

“He had long been known as an enormous talent and had to accept this summer that a transfer did not go through,” Hofland said, as quoted by PSV Inside.

“Armando Obispo of PSV once again proved against Feyenoord that he has made a big step forward. Mentally, he is rock solid. Nacho Ferri didn't stand a chance against him.”

Hofland also acknowledged the misfortune that prevented Obispo from adding his name to the scoresheet, with his header narrowly missing the target.

Til Continues To Deliver In Important Matches

Hofland also praised Til, whose first-half goal gave PSV a deserved lead after the hosts had controlled much of the opening period.

The midfielder has developed a reputation for making decisive contributions in important matches, and Hofland believes his effectiveness stems from his anticipation and ability to read situations before they develop.

“Guus Til of PSV scores in almost every important match. The game against Feyenoord was no exception,” he said.

“He isn't the most technical player, but he has the ability to think two, three steps ahead. That's why he's always in the right place. Feyenoord had a hard time with that.”

Til’s movement and timing once again caused problems for Feyenoord, although PSV were unable to turn their first-half superiority into a second goal that might have put the result beyond their opponents.

Van Bommel Makes An Impression In An Unfamiliar Role

Ruben van Bommel also received praise after being handed a starting role in attack.

With PSV dealing with several injuries and Sven Mijnans suspended, Van Bommel was deployed as a striker despite the position being unfamiliar to him. Hofland felt the youngster adapted well and caused Feyenoord problems with his movement and ability on the ball.

“He had to do it against Feyenoord as a striker in an unfamiliar position. If he had been a bit calmer at two moments, he would certainly have scored,” Hofland said.

“He made it very difficult for Feyenoord with his many runs and with his skill on the ball in a position that was unfamiliar to him.”

Van Bommel's performance offered encouragement for Bosz, even though PSV ultimately failed to secure all three points.

PSV Miss Chance To Strengthen Title Bid

Despite their strong first-half display, PSV were unable to maintain control after the interval. Hadj Moussa's equaliser shifted the momentum, and the hosts subsequently had to withstand further pressure. Geertruida also had a goal ruled out for offside against Ivan Perisic.

The draw leaves PSV four points behind Feyenoord after ten matches, with Bosz's side still needing greater consistency to close the gap.

Hofland's assessment, however, underlined the individual progress and contributions within the PSV squad, even on an afternoon when the team could not turn a promising start into victory.
