Tensions flare in Eindhoven as a shock defeat at Twente exposes the manager’s prickly demeanor, reigniting long-standing debates over his temperament and conduct under pressure.

Peter Bosz came in for criticism after PSV surrendered a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 at FC Twente, with RTV Oost journalist Tijmen van Wissing questioning the manager’s conduct following the defeat.

PSV suffered their first competitive loss of the 2026/27 season at the Grolsch Veste last Sunday. The defeat also ended a run that had stretched back to March 22, when PSV were beaten 3-1 by Telstar after playing much of the match with 10 men.

The result at Twente proved particularly frustrating for Bosz, whose side had taken the lead before conceding twice in the closing stages. The defeat has now prompted discussion about the PSV manager and his demeanour following difficult results.

Speaking on RTV Oost’s De Oosttribune, Van Wissing claimed Bosz has generated increasing resistance during the current campaign.

“I think he really enjoys giving a kind of lecture. Like: ‘You idiots don't understand anything and we should have won this match’,” Van Wissing said, as quoted by PSV Inside.

“That’s very entertaining. I notice that Bosz is provoking a lot of resistance this year.”

‘He can be a troublesome man’

Van Wissing also referred to the perception that followed Bosz throughout his managerial career, namely that his teams were associated with attractive football but lacked major trophies.

The PSV coach has since won silverware in Eindhoven, including last season’s Eredivisie title, but Van Wissing believes Bosz’s personality can still create friction when results go against him.

“Sunday, some people also came up to me who are annoyed by him. Since he’s started winning, he’s begun to get some cracks. I really like that gloomy look,” the journalist added.

“In terms of the way I see it, I still think he’s the nicest coach in the Netherlands, but he can be a troublesome man. If he loses, he can simply be a troublesome man.”

Van Wissing nevertheless acknowledged that the Twente defeat came in a closely contested match rather than one in which PSV were completely outplayed.

“In the end, I found it a bit petty, because it was an evenly matched game. Only FC Twente wanted it more,” he said.

Van Staa Criticises Press Conference

Former footballer and analyst Jan van Staa also recalled the post-match press conference, describing his experience of waiting for Bosz to appear.

“I was at that press conference and then you first have to wait three quarters of an hour at that table before he comes and sits down,” Van Staa said.

“Then he sits down and then he says nothing. Then you shouldn’t go and sit down there.”

The criticism comes as PSV begin the international break after dropping to third in the Eredivisie standings. Bosz now has time to assess the defeat and prepare his squad for the next stage of the campaign, with PSV looking to recover from their first competitive setback of the season.
