Ivan Leko vows to uphold his side's attacking identity in Eindhoven, pitting Belgium’s competitive champions against a seasoned PSV squad in a high-stakes clash of domestic titans.

Club Brugge manager Ivan Leko has described PSV as “a team of winners” ahead of Wednesday evening’s Champions League meeting at the Philips Stadium, while insisting his side will not abandon its attacking principles.

The Belgian champions travel to Eindhoven for a 9pm kick-off, with Leko addressing the media at the Philips Stadium on Tuesday evening as he previewed the meeting between the reigning champions of the Netherlands and Belgium.

The Croatian was keen to stress how much Belgian football has progressed in Europe, arguing that Club Brugge are no longer simply happy to participate in the Champions League.

“We no longer take selfies when we visit somewhere in the Champions League. Belgian teams no longer simply take part in the Champions League. Now they are competitive too,” Leko said, as quoted by Voetbal International.

However, he was equally respectful of the challenge awaiting his team. Leko spoke highly of PSV’s experience, quality and winning mentality, while pointing to the similarities between the two sides.

“It is a strong opponent with experience. PSV plays the same as we do. I would like to see the football they bring. It is a team of winners,” he added.

Leko outlines Club Brugge's approach

Despite his admiration for PSV, Leko made it clear that Club Brugge will travel to Eindhoven with the intention of imposing their own style of football.

The manager wants his team to remain adventurous in possession, but recognises that a Champions League contest demands discipline and concentration without the ball.

“We love to attack, but we also want to defend. This is the Champions League. Then you have to be top in every aspect. Our idea is not to give away chances,” he explained.

Leko also expects an entertaining contest between two teams who are comfortable playing on the front foot and are determined to stick to their respective footballing philosophies.

“Two teams that play football and want to carry out their own ideas. Put everything together, and it has to be a very nice match,” he concluded.

Vanaken sees little between the sides

Club Brugge captain Hans Vanaken was also present at the press conference and was reluctant to identify a clear favourite ahead of Wednesday's encounter.

The midfielder believes the two teams are closely matched, with both having established themselves as the leading sides in their respective domestic competitions.

“It is difficult to talk about the balance of power. We know each other’s qualities, which are fairly even. They are the best teams in their own country,” Vanaken said, as quoted by PSV Inside.

With both managers placing emphasis on their teams' attacking identity, the stage is set for an intriguing Champions League meeting in Eindhoven.
