Riding high on domestic dominance, Ivan Leko challenges his squad to abandon caution and embrace a fearless attacking strategy to topple PSV in Eindhoven.

Club Brugge manager Ivan Leko has already turned his attention to next Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with PSV, insisting his side must be prepared to take risks when they travel to Eindhoven.

The Belgian champions head into the fixture in confident mood after securing a 4-2 victory away to Zulte Waregem on Friday evening. The result leaves Brugge top of the league table with 27 points from their opening ten matches, having won nine of them.

PSV also enjoyed a convincing dress rehearsal, beating Willem II 7-0 to maintain their momentum ahead of the European encounter. Kick-off at the Philips Stadion on Wednesday is scheduled for 21:00.

Despite Brugge’s impressive domestic form, Leko believes there is still room for improvement.

Leko Pleased With Brugge's Attacking Display

Speaking after the victory over Zulte Waregem, the Croatian praised his players for their control of the game and their attacking efficiency, particularly in the first half.

“We are ten matchdays into the competition and have won nine times. Unbelievable. We had control and scored four times away. Not easy,” Leko said, as quoted by Het Nieuwsblad.

However, the Brugge manager admitted that his perfectionist instincts wanted to see his team maintain the same level after the break.

“The perfectionist in me would have liked to see the same in the second half. But my pragmatic side knows that with 1-4 at halftime you can kill a match.”

Leko was less pleased with the fact that his side failed to preserve a clean sheet, although he acknowledged their response after conceding.

“I can't be satisfied with that, but we reacted well. We chose our moments to be dangerous and scored more than Zulte. You're never finished in football, but now after one half 95 percent of the work was done. That's what I remember.”

Leko Demands Fearless Approach Against PSV

With the domestic victory secured, Brugge's attention has now shifted towards a significant Champions League test against PSV.

Leko knows the importance of the encounter and wants his players to approach it with confidence rather than being distracted by their previous European achievements.

Club Brugge have already produced an impressive performance against Inter, but the manager believes his young squad must move on and focus entirely on the challenge ahead.

“We know the importance of Wednesday. We are still a young team and we haven't reached our maximum yet,” he explained, as quoted by PSV Inside.

“Then you have to rinse the Inter feeling, however fantastic those four goals were.”

Leko also pointed to the difficulties Brugge have sometimes encountered against Zulte Waregem, suggesting that Friday's victory demonstrated their ability to handle different types of opponents.

“Against Waregem we often have a hard time, but we have shown that we can handle a team like that too. So against PSV we just have to dare to go all-in.”

He concluded by making clear that the celebrations following the league victory would be brief, with preparations for PSV now taking priority.

“I'm happy about this weekend, but all focus now goes to Wednesday.”

With both teams arriving after convincing victories, Wednesday's meeting promises to be a demanding test for two sides looking to strengthen their position in the Champions League.
