PSV awaits a definitive verdict on a €400 million expansion, signaling a new era that would halt international fixtures and concerts to prioritize a 52,000-seat future.
PSV are edging closer to a major redevelopment of the Philips Stadium, with the Netherlands' upcoming meeting with Serbia potentially becoming the final international match played at the current ground.
PSV presented plans earlier this year for a significant expansion of the stadium. The aim is to increase capacity to at least 52,000 spectators by 2030, with the project expected to cost between €350 million and €400 million.
The club is expected to receive a final go or no-go decision before the end of this calendar year. If the project receives approval, the first renovation work could begin at the end of the current football season.
According to the Eindhovens Dagblad, the stadium's use will also change considerably during the construction period.
Only official PSV first-team matches would be played at the Philips Stadium once the renovation begins. Concerts and Netherlands internationals would therefore no longer be possible during the redevelopment.
The municipality of Eindhoven has drawn up a draft protocol governing the use of the stadium during the works, with PSV confirming that there would be no room for other events.
“That is stated in the draft protocol that the municipality of Eindhoven has drawn up for the use of the stadium during the renovation. In a response, PSV confirms that for matters other than official first-team matches, there will be no space or time,” the ED reports, as relayed by PSV Inside.

Season-ticket holders could also be affected during the renovation. Under the municipality's draft protocol, there is a scenario in which sections of the stadium could be closed for safety reasons, potentially forcing supporters to miss a home match.
The municipality could reportedly make such a decision as late as one day before a fixture, depending on the progress of the works.
For PSV, the coming months will therefore be significant as the club awaits the final decision on a project that would fundamentally reshape its home.
