Despite heavy interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid, the Bundesliga giants are cooling talks of a reunion, leaving the door open for PSV to keep the versatile midfielder.
Reports linking Paul Wanner with a return to Bayern Munich have been played down, with BILD and Bayern Munich watcher Christian Falk reporting that the German club are not currently considering exercising their option to bring the PSV midfielder back.
Wanner’s future has attracted growing attention recently after reports emerged that several major European clubs are monitoring the 20-year-old.
Last week, journalist Ekrem Konur reported interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool. TEAMtalk subsequently reported that Bayern Munich were considering bringing Wanner back to the club, adding another dimension to the midfielder’s increasingly watched situation.
However, according to BILD, a return to Munich is not currently on the agenda.
Bayern Not Considering Return
Wanner joined PSV from Bayern for €15 million last year and has a contract with the Dutch club until the summer of 2030. Bayern do retain an option to buy him back, meaning the Bundesliga champions have a mechanism that could potentially allow them to regain control of the midfielder’s future.
Falk, however, reports that Bayern’s management are not considering activating that option at present.
That directly contradicts the recent reports suggesting that Wanner could return to Germany and provides a different picture of Bayern’s current intentions.
According to Falk, as relayed by PSV Inside, Wanner’s immediate task is to establish himself at PSV before considering another move abroad. The midfielder has been given an opportunity to develop in Eindhoven, and his progress there is now central to how his next career step could unfold.
The situation also means that reports of interest from elsewhere should be viewed separately from Bayern’s position. While Liverpool and Manchester City have been mentioned in connection with the player, Falk does not report that either club currently considers Wanner a priority target.
PSV’s €45-50m Valuation
PSV are understood to value Wanner at approximately €45 million to €50 million, a significant increase on the €15 million fee paid to Bayern.
The midfielder’s versatility is one reason for the attention around him. Wanner can operate as an attacking midfielder or play deeper in central midfield, offering technical ability and mobility in possession.
For now, though, there is no indication from Falk that Bayern are preparing to bring him back to Munich.
Wanner remains tied to PSV until mid-2030, leaving the Eindhoven club with a strong contractual position as interest in the young midfielder continues to develop.
The latest BILD update therefore removes Bayern from the immediate equation, although the wider speculation surrounding Wanner’s future is unlikely to disappear if his progress at PSV continues.
