Liverpool are reportedly ready to compete with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Paul Wanner, with the Dutch champions said to be facing a potential January approach for the highly rated 20-year-old.

PSV could have a difficult decision to make when the January transfer window opens, with Paul Wanner attracting growing interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

According to the latest report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool are now prepared to enter the race for the German midfielder, joining Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in monitoring his situation.

The interest comes after Wanner established himself as an important player at PSV. The 20-year-old joined the Eindhoven club permanently in the summer of 2025 after beginning his career at Bayern Munich and spending loan spells with SV Elversberg and Heidenheim.

Wanner made only eight senior appearances for Bayern before moving elsewhere for regular first-team football. His first season in the Netherlands proved considerably more productive, as he played an important role in PSV’s Eredivisie title-winning campaign and scored four goals.

Liverpool have already been linked with several midfielders in recent transfer windows.

Their established midfield core of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch has remained intact, but the club did explore further additions during the summer.

Liverpool were reportedly involved in the race for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara before the French club ultimately decided against allowing him to leave. Ched Ndour of Fiorentina has also been mentioned as a potential target.

Wanner now represents another option for the Premier League club, although Liverpool would face significant competition.

Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the midfielder as part of their longer-term midfield planning, while Manchester City have also been credited with an interest.

Bayern, however, could have a decisive advantage.

Wanner's history with Bayern means the German club's involvement is different from that of Liverpool or Real Madrid.

Reports indicate that Bayern have an option to re-sign the midfielder, a provision that could significantly influence any future negotiations.

That clause could become particularly important if multiple major European clubs make approaches for the PSV player.

PSV are understood to want Wanner to remain in Eindhoven, but the club may be prepared to listen if an offer arrives that is considered too attractive to reject.

The midfielder is reportedly valued at around €45-50 million, equivalent to approximately £38.5-42.85m. A potential transfer could also include performance bonuses and a percentage or other provisions relating to a future sale.

For PSV, the timing could be crucial.

The club invested heavily in strengthening its squad during the summer and is competing on both domestic and European fronts. Losing an important midfielder midway through the campaign would therefore create a significant sporting decision.

Wanner's ability to operate as an attacking No.10 or in a deeper central midfield role is part of his appeal. His technique, movement in tight spaces and ability to accelerate attacks with quick combinations have made him an increasingly valuable member of Peter Bosz’s squad.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking to maintain competition in midfield after allowing Curtis Jones to leave during the summer. There is also considerable optimism surrounding teenage midfielder Trey Nyoni, who is viewed internally as a player capable of making a breakthrough.

The growing interest in Wanner means PSV may soon have to decide just how firmly they are prepared to resist approaches.
