From landmark assists to family celebrations, the PSV skipper reflects on his Seleção breakthrough and reuniting with superstars under the bright lights of the international stage.
Mauro Júnior has opened up about his emotional Brazil debut after the PSV captain experienced a memorable international window with the Seleção.
The versatile PSV player made his official senior debut against Australia, with the match ending 1-1. A few days later, Mauro was handed his first start for Brazil against the same opposition, as Carlo Ancelotti's side secured a 4-2 victory.
The international window ended with another landmark moment. Brazil faced India last Saturday, and Mauro recorded his first assist for the national team.
For the PSV captain, however, the significance of his debut only truly became clear after the match.

Speaking to ESPN, as quoted by PSV Inside, Mauro explained that it was the reaction from his family that made the achievement feel real.
“I realized it when I picked up my phone and saw the messages from my wife and family. They also said that their dream had come true. Then I realized what it means.”
He added that representing Brazil had always been a major personal ambition.
“It was also, of course, a big goal to achieve for myself.”
Mauro also received messages from several current and former teammates at PSV, including Joey Veerman, Jerdy Schouten and Guus Til.
“Joey, Jerdy, all those guys sent me a message. Guus as well. They asked how the match went, especially after the second match when I was in the starting lineup.”
The experience, he said, carried a special significance.
“Playing for the Brazilian national team is something very special for me.”

The international window also gave Mauro the opportunity to reconnect with Vinícius Júnior, whom he knew from an earlier period in their careers.
Mauro recalled that his role has changed considerably since then, with the PSV captain now also operating as a full-back.
“When I played with him I was a midfielder, now I'm a full-back. That was great fun.”
Vinícius was not yet the global star he has become when Mauro first played alongside him.
“When I played with Vinícius Júnior, he wasn't the superstar he is now.”
Mauro also highlighted his relationship with Brazil defender Gabriel Magalhães.
“It’s also nice to already know a few guys. I also have a very good relationship with Gabriel. We had a lot of fun.”

The PSV captain has now caught Ancelotti's attention, with the Brazil head coach telling Mauro that his opportunity could lead to further international involvement.
According to Mauro, Ancelotti values what he brings both on and off the pitch and will continue monitoring his performances.
“He said it’s a great opportunity for me and that he values me both on and off the pitch. He will keep keeping an eye on me.”
The message from Ancelotti is straightforward: Mauro does not need to change his approach.
“I just have to keep doing what I was already doing, and then there’s a big chance that he will call me again. So I have to keep playing well.”
For Mauro, his first Brazil appearance has already become a significant milestone. The challenge now is to turn that breakthrough into a regular place in Ancelotti's plans.
