Despite trailing the leaders, Peter Bosz’s side boasts continuity and squad depth that rivals cannot match. Reporter Noa Vahle explains why experience remains their ultimate edge.
PSV remain among the leading contenders for the Eredivisie title despite falling four points behind Feyenoord, with Ziggo Sport reporter Noa Vahle backing Peter Bosz’s squad to finish the season on top while warning that the race remains difficult to predict.
After ten league matches, PSV sit third in the table, one point behind second-placed Ajax and four behind leaders Feyenoord. Their 1-1 draw against Feyenoord last weekend, combined with Ajax’s narrow 2-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam, has made the title race increasingly difficult to call.
Speaking on SBS6 programme Nieuws van de Dag, Vahle explained why PSV would have been her initial choice to win the championship, while acknowledging that the performances of their rivals have complicated the picture.

Vahle pointed to PSV’s three consecutive league titles under Bosz as a key reason for favouring the Eindhoven club. Their established playing style and continuity under the same manager give them an advantage over their rivals, in her assessment.
“Difficult. At the beginning of the year, you’re asked to submit a list. Logically, that would be PSV, because they’ve already been champions for three years in a row with the same coach. Then Feyenoord came along and made PSV drop it a bit,” she said.
However, the reporter admitted that the latest round of fixtures had reinforced the unpredictability of the competition.
“Then I saw this week the Topper and then I saw Ajax against Sparta and then I thought: it’s actually a typical Eredivisie weekend. You can’t make any predictions at all about who will become champion. That’s also kind of fun. I can say it now and then next week I’ll think something different again,” Vahle added.
Despite those reservations, she believes PSV possess the strongest overall squad, particularly when depth and experience are taken into account.
“If you look purely at the squad, the depth and how long they’ve already been in the process, I think that PSV has the best chances,” she explained.

Vahle also assessed the credentials of PSV’s two main rivals, identifying potential weaknesses that could influence the title race as the season progresses.
Feyenoord have established themselves at the top of the table, but Vahle questioned whether their squad has enough depth to sustain a challenge over the full campaign.
“I think that Feyenoord, when you look at how they perform with Van Bronckhorst, with a few individuals, they have a solid starting lineup, but do they have a deep squad?” she said.
Her assessment of Ajax was similarly cautious. Although several high-profile players have arrived in Amsterdam, Vahle believes the team still needs time to develop into a settled unit.
“At Ajax, a few big names came to Amsterdam, but it’s still a bit of a foreign legion. The prices also aren’t being waived in October,” she remarked, as quoted by PSV Inside.

Despite backing PSV to have the best title prospects, Vahle was critical of the overall quality on display during the weekend’s headline fixtures.
She felt the PSV-Feyenoord meeting lacked the quality expected of such an important encounter, even though both sides showed plenty of determination. Ajax, meanwhile, collected three points against Sparta without producing a convincing performance.
“It was a big match, one that you didn’t think would be such a great game. There was definitely fight in it,” Vahle said.
She also highlighted AZ’s strong start and identified FC Twente as a potential outsider in the championship race.
Ultimately, Vahle believes PSV have the squad and continuity to reclaim the initiative, but their latest draw has left them playing catch-up. With Feyenoord leading and Ajax close behind, the reigning champions cannot afford many more setbacks if they are to extend their title-winning run.
