With a high-priced release clause set to expire, the U.S. international’s lack of suitors makes a permanent stay in Eindhoven the most likely outcome this summer.
Sergiño Dest appears increasingly likely to remain at PSV Eindhoven beyond the current transfer window, despite having a clause that could allow him to leave for €23 million.
According to PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, the lack of concrete interest in the United States international means a departure is becoming less likely as the transfer deadline approaches.
Elfrink comments on the situation on X: “Dest's sales clause expires this weekend already. After 15 August, PSV does not have to cooperate with a transfer. Until that time, the previously mentioned 23 million remains the limit. A transfer can theoretically still happen later if a great offer comes in and a good replacement can be found.”
Dest joined PSV in the summer of 2023, initially on loan from Barcelona. His performances during his first season convinced the Eindhoven club to make the move permanent.
The right-back had been keen to make another move abroad before the World Cup in North America, but the release clause has so far failed to generate a concrete proposal.

Elfrink believes PSV’s hierarchy, including Marcel Brands and Earnest Stewart, will not allow the situation to remain unresolved indefinitely.
“I think that Marcel Brands and Earnest Stewart are smart enough not to let those clauses run until 31 August,” Elfrink said on the De Rood Wit Podcast, as relayed by PSV Inside.
“I think that is gradually moving toward the end. Dest could leave for 23 million and if nothing comes this week...”
The PSV watcher subsequently indicated that the likelihood of Dest staying is increasing.
“I do hear rumors that the chance is becoming increasingly greater that he will remain at PSV,” Elfrink said.
For PSV, keeping the 25-year-old would represent an important boost, particularly because of the qualities he offers going forward.
“And I think that would be a very good thing for PSV, because in my view Dest is an enormous weapon going forward, which makes PSV much stronger with the ball,” Elfrink continued.
“You can have some opinions about defending purely, but he has so much drive forward. In the Eredivisie, I truly think he is a top player.”

The main question, according to Elfrink, is whether Dest can quickly refocus if a move does not materialise.
“If you can keep him, then you have a great weapon at your disposal,” he said. “The only thing is that in his own mind he had the idea that he was going to make a transfer.”
Elfrink nevertheless expects Dest to handle the situation professionally.
“Then he has to switch that button. I do think he’s professional enough for that, of course. But you do need to show that, though,” he concluded.
With the transfer window approaching its final stages, PSV could therefore retain a player they regard as an important part of Bosz’s squad, despite the possibility of his departure having been on the table throughout the summer.
