Despite a narrow Champions League defeat, Peter Bosz’s side earned international respect by rattling RB Leipzig with aggressive pressing and a relentless display of attacking intent.
PSV Eindhoven may have suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the Champions League, but Peter Bosz’s side earned praise from several German media outlets for their performance at the Red Bull Arena.
Although the result leaves PSV needing to improve their points tally in the competition, the Dutch champions made a positive impression with their aggressive pressing, periods of control and ability to create dangerous opportunities against the Bundesliga side.
Brajan Gruda’s second-half strike ultimately separated the teams, while PSV were left to regret missed chances, including Ivan Perišić’s saved penalty. Nevertheless, German coverage of the match highlighted the quality of the contest and the threat posed by Bosz’s team.

German newspaper BILD described the match as entertaining, while pointing to the outstanding performances of both goalkeepers, Maarten Vandevoordt and Matej Kovář, who made important saves throughout the contest.
Vandevoordt was particularly influential, denying Perišić from the penalty spot. According to BILD, the save was the eighth penalty he had stopped during his career.
The newspaper also highlighted a significant milestone for Leipzig, who recorded their ninth consecutive home victory, equalling the club record set in 2020.
Despite the missed opportunities at both ends, the match provided an engaging contest, with the goalkeepers playing a major role in keeping the scoreline tight.

Local newspaper Leipziger Volkszeitung also enjoyed the encounter, describing it as a fantastic football match featuring numerous chances for both sides. While the publication considered Leipzig deserved winners, it was equally complimentary about PSV and the talent within Bosz’s squad.
“Yes, what a fantastic football match! With countless great chances for both RB Leipzig and PSV. With two giants in goal. And ultimately, RB Leipzig came out as the deserved winner,” the newspaper wrote.
It also highlighted the different qualities available to Bosz, pointing to Ruben van Bommel’s talent, Lutsharel Geertruida’s mentality and the experience of Ivan Perišić and Filip Kostić.
The assessment offered recognition of PSV’s blend of youth, determination and experience, even as the Eindhoven side left Germany without a point.

Sports broadcaster Sportschau focused on the way PSV troubled Leipzig after taking time to settle into the match.
“PSV needed a bit of time to get into rhythm, but then showed its quality,” the broadcaster observed, as relayed by PSV Inside.
It added that PSV, Dutch champions for the previous three years, restricted Leipzig’s opportunities to build comfortably with aggressive pressing and repeatedly created dangerous situations.
The comments underline one of the main positives for Bosz: PSV were able to disrupt their opponents and produce attacking threats away from home, even if they ultimately failed to convert those opportunities into goals.
Kicker And Sport1 Look Ahead To Leipzig’s Challenges
Kicker, like Leipziger Volkszeitung, regarded Leipzig as deserving winners. The result also provides momentum for the German side ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
Sport1 highlighted the challenges awaiting Leipzig, with matches against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and Real Madrid in the Champions League coming up.
For PSV, the German media reaction offers some encouragement after a frustrating defeat. Bosz’s side still need to turn promising performances into points in Europe, but their display in Leipzig showed that they can compete with strong opposition and create problems through their pressing and possession game.
The challenge now is to make that quality count in the results column.
