Sven Mijnans is increasingly establishing himself as a key figure in Peter Bosz's midfield, with the 26-year-old admitting that he initially underestimated the step up to PSV after joining from AZ.
Sven Mijnans is beginning to show exactly why PSV Eindhoven invested in bringing him to the club, with the attacking midfielder emerging as an increasingly influential presence in Peter Bosz's team.
The 26-year-old has gradually established himself as a regular starter and is taking on greater responsibility in a side that has previously relied heavily on Ismael Saibari for creativity and attacking contributions from midfield.
His latest performance against Willem II offered another indication of his growing influence. Mijnans scored a goal and provided an assist in PSV's emphatic 7-0 victory, helping the Eindhoven club turn a dominant display into an even more convincing result.
Speaking to ESPN after the match, the midfielder admitted that the transition to PSV had initially proved more demanding than he expected.
“I may well have underestimated the transfer to PSV a bit,” Mijnans said.
The former AZ player described his current surroundings as a close-knit environment, referring to the squad as the PSV family. He also expressed satisfaction with the way the team's collective performances are now translating into goals.
“It's going well. If you win 7-0, with a goal and an assist, then you feel good,” he explained.
“I thought the guys who came on also contributed. They brought extra energy. What we're all doing is now paying off in goals. That is pretty nice.”

Mijnans' development at PSV has not happened overnight. Having joined from AZ, he needed time to adapt to the expectations, intensity and demands of his new club.
The midfielder acknowledged that his early performances did not always reflect his ability, with the move to Eindhoven involving adjustments both on and off the pitch.
“In the beginning, it was a bit more difficult as well; then I still had to find my place a little more. That also had to do with moving and with the little things, you know,” he said, as quoted by PSV Inside.
“I could tell for myself that I wasn't yet at my level, and I also said that honestly. We had good conversations about that.”
Those conversations appear to have helped Mijnans settle, with the midfielder now showing greater consistency and confidence in Bosz's system.
His performance against FC Porto in the Champions League also provided evidence of his growing importance. Mijnans believes PSV have been producing the right level of intensity for some time, even when their results have not fully reflected their performances.
“Against Feyenoord, of course, we should have taken more distance already in the first half, and in the Champions League against FC Porto we also had chances to pull ahead,” he said.
“That it then works out today in a big way is a great boost. We are one team, one family.”

Mijnans' comments suggest that he now feels fully comfortable at PSV after an initial adjustment period. The midfielder revealed that his confidence and sense of belonging have improved considerably over recent weeks.
“I've already noticed for a few weeks, maybe even two months, that I'm feeling good in my own skin and that I'm right where I belong at PSV,” he explained.
“I may have initially underestimated it a bit. But now everything is under control; there is stability.”
For PSV, Mijnans' growing influence represents an important development as Bosz looks to maintain competition and quality throughout his midfield.
The 26-year-old's goal and assist against Willem II were further evidence of his progress. Having taken time to adjust to the demands of his new surroundings, he is now beginning to deliver the performances PSV hoped to see when they brought him to Eindhoven.
