Alvaro Arbeloa denied rumors of a broken relationship with Kylian Mbappe, saying he understands the forward's frustration.
The future of Alvaro Arbeloa as coach of Real Madrid is about to end. After a season in which he suffered alongside his fans and his roster, the Spaniard will say goodbye to the bench.
Although it has not been the best season, we cannot deny that Arbeloa has always been attentive to the club. Managing and controlling a roster full of stars, like Real Madrid's, is not easy.
In the last match that Real Madrid played against Real Oviedo (2-0), the Spanish coach did not call up the French star, Kylian Mbappe, as a starter.
This sparked intrigue from the press, who, at the end of the match, asked Mbappe why he had been a substitute, to which the forward answered, somewhat affected by the situation.
"I haven't played because the coach says I am the fourth forward," he expressed.
The media went crazy after the statement, which is why it was now read everywhere that the relationship between Mbappe and Arbeloa was broken, that there was no turning back, and a world of other things.
Faced with the pressure of the news, the coach calmly denied all these rumors in a press conference, assuring that his relationship with the Frenchman remains the same.
"I just ran into him. I told him to be calm. I understand that this type of thing grabs headlines, but it is much more normal than you think," Arbeloa said.
Alvaro Arbeloa assured that he understands these situations where players go from playing as starters all the time to playing less or not playing at all.
"I perfectly understand that Kylian was not happy about not playing on Thursday, and I like that. I wouldn't understand why he didn't want to play. My relationship with him remains the same."
Kylian Mbappe has suffered a series of targeting by much of Real Madrid's fan base, full of criticism, racism, and hate messages.
It is normal and understandable that the forward feels frustrated by everything he is going through and becomes more irritable toward his surroundings.
On the one hand, it will be a relief for both that the relationship ends on good terms, as the Spaniard is about to leave the club in the summer, with the Portuguese coach, Jose Mourinho, taking his place.
In fact, there is a deep affection between Mourinho and Real Madrid's coach. Speaking at the same press conference before Sunday's match against Sevilla FC about his replacement for next season, Arbeloa almost sounded like a farewell.
"I have always been clear with Jose. As a Madridista, I feel he is No. 1. I said the same thing in the Champions League. I thought it a month ago, and I will continue to think it. He will always be 'uno di noi.' If he returns, I will be very happy that he is home," he concluded.
Arbeloa has one more league match left to finish the season and, very likely, also his tenure as coach of Real Madrid.
