Florentino Perez launched a direct attack on presidential rival Enrique Riquelme during his candidacy speech.

Real Madrid's elections are already underway, as the current president, Florentino Perez, called them after a supposed media campaign to discredit the club.

A couple of weeks ago, the president called the presidential election in an unexpected press conference, and, clearly, Florentino did so thinking of that businessman who was already beginning to gain relevance in the media, Enrique Riquelme.

According to Florentino's words, he was willing to face anyone who dared to compete with him, so he called the elections.

Riquelme, however, even though the deadline to run was very short, did not back down and accepted the challenge, being officially named as a candidate for the presidency of Real Madrid.

On Wednesday of this week, Florentino presented his candidacy with a speech that was indisputably a direct attack on his campaign rival.

According to reports from Marca, the president decided to call the elections after the supposed existence of a shadow campaign against the club.

He also linked Enrique Riquelme's candidacy with Ramon Calderon, the former president of Real Madrid.

Florentino assured that he and his team now understand everything, because he said the rival's campaign is led by the same people who led the darkest stage in Real Madrid's history.

"They are the same ones who were on that board of directors, the same ones who, in an assembly, stole the sovereignty of the members, the same ones who brought many people who were not Real Madrid members to vote."

Florentino also bluntly assured that these people are not coming to serve Real Madrid, but rather to take advantage of it.

The 79-year-old president also said that progress was being made in creating a social club for members, a proposal Riquelme has also advanced, and reiterated that they are fighting against the illegal resale of membership cards.

In the speech, the president took the opportunity to defend the way he and his team work, reminding the press that his entire team is studied at Harvard, that his club is the richest in the world, and that they are currently preparing for a technological revolution in a project together with Apple, the 'Bernabeu Infinito'.

Finally, Florentino spoke about the 'Negreira Case'. The Spaniard again assured that he will not stop publicizing the matter, as long as the case continues to tarnish the image of Spanish soccer.

He also made it clear that he disagreed with the other clubs for not speaking out against the most embarrassing case of the last 20 years.

"In the world, they don't understand that a club has paid the vice president of the referees for 20 years and that nothing has happened here, and that those referees continue to referee in the League. We are the only club that has appeared and taken a position against it."

The candidacy remains ongoing, and Real Madrid's board will have until June 7 to evaluate both opponents' campaigns and choose the favorite.
