Following the Whites' recent disappointment regarding Rodri's transfer to Barcelona, Jose Mourinho is seemingly still looking to add to his midfield this summer.
Despite the availability of Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde, who are all excited to impress their new manager this summer, Mourinho has reportedly convinced the club management to move in for another central midfielder whom he admires.
As reported by Portuguese journalist Ben Fernandes Santos, Real Madrid are 'very interested' in Victor Froholdt, who currently plays for Porto.
The report also suggests that Mourinho developed his interest in the Danish midfielder during the veteran manager's tenure at Benfica last season.
Froholdt's stats certainly show why Los Blancos' new manager is pushing for a move this summer.
The 20-year-old scored a total of six goals and provided five assists in all competitions for Porto last season.
Following his summer move from FC Copenhagen last summer, Froholdt quickly became an integral part of Porto's squad and also played a pivotal role in the Dragoes' successful campaign to secure the Portuguese league title last season.
The young Dane has already made 12 appearances for his national side and has also got on the scoresheet once in his international career so far.
Froholdt's ability to thrive under high-pressing systems, combined with his brilliant ball-carrying skills and also his towering presence during set pieces, makes him an automatic attraction for every big club.
According to reports, Porto has set an €85 million release clause for their midfielder, which the Whites will most certainly look to negotiate if they decide to make a move for the 20-year-old this summer.
However, Froholdt's long-term contract with Porto, which will expire in 2030, will certainly give the Portuguese side an upper hand in terms of negotiations.
But as it seems, the Merengues have another underlying problem to solve before making a move for the Porto midfielder.
Multiple reports have previously pointed out that the Whites will not make any more signings this summer until another player departs.
As a result, Camavinga's future at the club could be once again up for discussion if Real Madrid decides to make a late move for Froholdt this summer.
