According to recent reports in the media, a Real Madrid first team player is at risk of not being selected for the World Cup in North America this summer

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup taking place in the USA, Canada and Mexico taking place next month, there is already plenty of anticipation and excitement ahead of the tournament.

Unfortunately, there are some high profile players who will not be taking part. Hugo Ekitike of Liverpool, Serge Gnabry of Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid's very own Eder Militao are a few of the star names who have been ruled out of the World Cup.

Well, it looks like there could be one more Los Blancos not boarding a flight to North America next month. Indeed not, as it being reported by French journalist Saber Desfarges of Telefoot that Eduardo Camavinga's spot in the France World Cup squad is in "serious doubt", with manager Didier Deschamps considering leaving him at home.

Although clearly a very, very talented player, things just have not been working of late for Camavinga. This was encapsulated by his needless sending off against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter final second leg, which played a big part in the team's elimination.

Despite Aurelien Tchouameni not starting in the 1-1 draw against Real Betis last time out, there was still no place for the 23-year old in the XI, with Thiago Pitarch instead preferred by Alvaro Arbeloa, which was a pretty damning choice.

So far this season, the Frenchman has started just 14 games in La Liga, and some of those have been as a left back too. Since joining the club five seasons ago, he has struggled to nail down a consistent, midfield starting spot.

In the past, Camavinga has been selected for two major tournaments with the France national team, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and Euro 2024 in Germany. However, across both tournaments, he only started a total of two games, with four appearances off the bench.

Although the depth in midfield is not as strong as in other areas, France still do boast several good options in his position. Warren Zaire-Emery is excelling for PSG, Ngolo Kante is back playing in Europe with Fenerbahce and has always played well for the national team. There is then Tchouameni and other options too.

So, you do get the feeling that Camavinga needs a strong finish to the season with Real Madrid, otherwise it certainly does not feel outside of the realms of possibility that he is not selected for what is a very, very strong team.
