Real Madrid have done an excellent job of strengthening their options this summer. Los Blancos have brought in Jose Mourinho as manager, and the Portuguese legend has his eyes on proven talent rather than going for youngsters.

Of course, Mourinho's teams are always known for being solid defensively. And the focus on Real Madrid's defence has been there for all to see.

Ibrahima Konate, Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries will be added to the Real Madrid squad after the World Cup.

Yet, it looks like Mourinho and Real Madrid are not satisfied. They have set their eyes on another elite centre-back as it looks like this will go down as one of the best summer transfer windows in the club's history.

According to Sergio Valentin, Real Madrid are looking for another centre-back. There are two names on the table right now. Nico Schlotterbeck and Tomas Araujo.

If fans had to pick between the two, one would imagine that most would want Schlotterbeck.

He has been at Borussia Dortmund since 2022. So, he knows what it takes to succeed at a top club.

Schlotterbeck is also a starting centre-back for Germany at the World Cup, who kicked off their campaign with a 7-1 win over Curacao. The Borussia Dortmund centre-back was on the score sheet.

Schlotterbeck is 26 years of age and in many ways, he might be the perfect profile for Real Madrid.

He has the experience required to succeed at a club like Real Madrid. But at the same time, it is possible that he has not even entered his prime yet and could remain a top-level defender for the next 7-8 years.

Obviously, it would be a mistake to overlook the other option. Araujo is 24 years of age and he does not have as much top level experience as Schlotterbeck.

He has been a regular fixture for Benfica for quite some time but for Portugal, at the international level, he has appeared just five times so far.

One advantage he does have is that Mourinho knows him well, having worked together at Benfica.

And considering the fact that Benfica did not lose a single game last season, one can draw the conclusion that he is quite adept at Mourinho's style of football and would make a seamless transition, at least stylistically.

Overall, Real Madrid fans will be very pleased with the ambition that the club seem to be showing after two seasons without any major trophy. If that does not change next season, nobody can point the finger towards the board.
