PSG set to sell academy product Ibrahim Mbaye to Aston Villa for a record fee. The deal surpasses Mamadou Sakho's €23m transfer.

On the fringes of Bradley Barcola’s record transfer to Liverpool, another record move is set to take place with Ibrahim Mbaye’s departure to Aston Villa. The young winger is about to become the biggest sale of a player developed in PSG’s academy, by far.

One record can hide another, and just as PSG is about to close the biggest sale in its history with Bradley Barcola’s departure for 125 million euros, plus 20 million in bonuses that would bring the total to 145 million euros, the French capital club is about to complete another very fine sale.

All the transfer-market specialists agree that Ibrahim Mbaye will leave for Aston Villa, the Parisians’ future Champions League opponent.

The 18-year-old winger, under contract in Paris only until June 2028, will sign with the Villans until 2031, with an optional year, and his medical is even scheduled for this Saturday.

The press estimates Mbaye's transfer at 55 million euros, including bonuses, and the player who holds the biggest contract ever signed by an academy product will thus become the most expensive club-trained player ever sold by Paris.

The young Ibrahim Mbaye wipes Mamadou Sakho off the books; Sakho had been sold to Liverpool for 23 million euros, bonuses included. Partly developed at PSG but having left in the meantime for PSV, where he broke out, Xavi Simons, for his part, signed for 50 million with Leipzig, but his career was mainly boosted after his departure, and he never wore the Parisian jersey between his return from Eindhoven and his move to Leipzig, first on loan and then as a permanent transfer.

Across all transfers, however, Ibrahim Mbaye will not be the biggest transfer in the history of a player 100% developed at PSG, as Xavi Simons arrived late. Indeed, Christopher Nkunku moved from RB Leipzig to Chelsea for an estimated 60 million euros, while Moussa Diaby moved from Aston Villa to Al-Ittihad for 60 million euros as well. Fun fact: Aston Villa had already spent 55 million on Diaby, whom they bought from Leverkusen for that price.

Elsewhere, if the Catalan media outlet El Nacional is to be believed, PSG coach Luis Enrique asked Luis Campos to resume discussions with Barcelona, after the Ferran Torres move, regarding the possible transfer of Raphinha.

Never mind that Barça fell in PSG’s path in the Champions League, after Ferran, the PSG boss wants to know the terms of a possible transfer of the 29-year-old Brazilian international.
