Manchester United's inconsistent season continued as they lost 2-1 to a formidable Aston Villa side on Sunday at Villa Park.
Anyone who followed the match closely would concur on the fact that United were clearly the better side on the day, but unfortunately, the Reds failed to convert ball possession into goals as Morgan Rogers scored two brilliant goals to secure the win for the Villans, as the Reds dropped to seventh position in the league.
United started the game without their three AFCON absentees, Bryan Mbuemo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui and Casemiro who was out of the game due the accumulation of five yellow cards before the game. The Reds' most controversial player of the season, Kobbie Mainoo was also ruled out of the fixture due to a calf injury which he obtained during training.
Ruben Amorin and his team would definitely feel that they should have came out on top during Sunday's encounter but as it seems they have another problem at hand as their captain Bruno Fernandes is set to be sidelined for the upcoming fixtures as the club are still assessing the extent of his Injury.
Former Manchester United Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel sighted Bruno's absence in the upcoming games could really land the club in a pretty bad fix as he talked about the situation on Viaplay (Football 365) saying, "That’s a problem for Manchester United. It is a problem, it’s a massive problem because he is the leader of the team, he’s the captain of the team.
"We don’t see the best of him because he plays in a position that is not his prime position, if you like. He’s a better No.10, but the system doesn’t really have that position for him."
Despite playing in a deeper role this season, Fernandes has scored five goals and provided seven assists in this season's Premier league which makes him the top assist provider in the league currently. The stats are just one of the many reasons why the 31-year-old is still considered as the best player in United's current setup despite their extravagant summer signings.
Amorin will have a tough time despite Casemiro being available for the game against Newcastle at the end of this week as Bruno's understudy, Mainoo, could be amongst the list of absentees during the boxing day fixture.
