AFC Bournemouth have unveiled their stunning new third kit for 2026/27, earning widespread praise for its classy design. But once again, the Vitality sponsor has dominated the conversation, with supporters left wondering how an otherwise beautiful shirt could have been so badly compromised.

AFC Bournemouth have unveiled their third kit for the 2026/27 season at a glitzy event at the O2 Academy in Bournemouth, completing the club’s Hummel collection for the upcoming campaign.

The launch brought together local media, dignitaries and invited guests for the first official look at the final instalment of Bournemouth’s new-season kit range.

Attendees were treated to an exclusive reveal of the new third shirt, alongside a bespoke art exhibition inspired by the club’s history and the new design. DJs Abi Lemon and Josh Parkinson provided live music throughout the evening, while attendees were welcomed with drinks and canapés, including a selection of cherry-inspired cocktails.

The cream and off-white Hummel shirt features black detailing, including a classic fold-over polo collar with concealed poppers and the traditional Hummel shoulder chevrons. Gold accents and a subtle repeating cherry pattern are incorporated into the fabric, while the shirt uses the club’s alternative retro-inspired crest.

Yet despite widespread praise for the shirt itself, the launch was once again accompanied by a familiar source of frustration among Bournemouth supporters. Fans described the aesthetic as "unreal", "one of the cleanest third kits in the Premier League" and a "work of art".

Similarly, the accompanying jackets featured in the launch photography also attracted plenty of praise.

However, for many supporters, the excitement was tempered by the continued presence of the Vitality sponsorship.

The sponsor's design and placement has been a recurring source of debate throughout Bournemouth's 2026/27 kit releases, and the third shirt was no different. Supporters took to social media to complain that the sponsor had once again compromised what they otherwise considered to be an outstanding design.

"That could have been my fave ever kit," one supporter wrote, while another described it simply as a "classy kit ruined".

Others suggested the shirt had been "ruined", "butchered" or "destroyed", with one fan summarising the frustration by claiming the club had produced "three incredible shirts... all ruined by a stubborn sponsor with rigid brand guidelines".

There was also some debate surrounding the decision to use the retro-style crest rather than Bournemouth's traditional shield, while some supporters questioned whether the club could have explored alternative sponsorship arrangements.

In particular, a number of fans pointed towards the Bournemouth University branding worn by the club's women's team, with some suggesting they would refrain from purchasing any of the men's shirts this season in the hope that an alternative sponsor could eventually be adopted.

There was also intrigue surrounding the timing of the launch.

Although the event at the O2 Academy may always have been intended to coincide with the official unveiling, the shirt appeared on sale through JD Sports' website before Bournemouth had formally announced it.

That raised suggestions that the early retail availability may have prompted the club to bring forward its own social media and promotional activity.

Regardless, the third kit now completes Bournemouth's 2026/27 Hummel range, with the shirt available featuring the club's usual commercial partners.

While the design itself has received considerable acclaim from supporters and neutrals alike, the debate surrounding the Vitality branding once again threatens to overshadow what many believe is one of Bournemouth's most stylish kits in recent years.

For a club entering a landmark season with European football on the horizon and an expanding global profile, some supporters will undoubtedly wonder whether more could have been done to ensure the shirt's sponsorship complemented rather than compromised the design.
