Bournemouth head to Chelsea today without the injured Alex Scott, who faces four to five weeks out. Marco Rose has described the midfielder as a huge loss, but believes Ryan Christie could step up. Can the Scotland international fill Scott's boots and help the Cherries secure a crucial result?
Whilst Bournemouth supporters might be concerned by the current league table, one of the biggest blows ahead of today's trip to Chelsea is the absence of Alex Scott, who is expected to miss four to five weeks with a muscle injury sustained on England duty. Cherries head coach Marco Rose shares that disappointment, having lost one of his most important midfielders at a crucial stage of the season.
Scott had enjoyed a memorable period, earning his first England start after previously making his international debut from the bench. His injury is a significant setback for both player and club, particularly given the importance he has assumed within Rose's midfield.
Speaking about the injury, Rose did not hide his frustration.
"I'm very disappointed, and it's a big loss."

"We are very happy that he made his debut for the English national team. He did well, and we just hope that he is getting quite soon fit again."
Rose subsequently offered a detailed explanation of why Scott's absence will be felt so keenly.
"He is a box-to-box player. He defends well. He has a good timing for pressing. He's aggressive. He's good out of possession. He's top in possession. He scores goals. He assists goals.
"So he is good in everything. And to miss a player who's good in everything is a challenge."
It is difficult to argue with that assessment. Scott's energy, technical ability and intelligence make him one of Bournemouth's most complete midfielders, capable of contributing at both ends of the pitch. Losing him during such a congested run of fixtures is particularly unfortunate, and his absence will be keenly felt as the Cherries look to get their Premier League campaign back on track.

Rose suggested this could potentially be a positive sign, although the club will need to continue assessing his condition before determining when he might return.
For today's encounter at Stamford Bridge, however, Bournemouth must find a way to cope without him. Rose has suggested that Ryan Christie could be a natural candidate to fill the void in midfield.
The Scotland international endured an injury-disrupted campaign last season and also missed several weeks at the beginning of the current season with a knee problem. However, his recent performances appear to have convinced Rose that he is ready to play an important role.
"I see him in a good spot. Even this year he started with a knee injury, and we missed him for several weeks. But the way he's coming back, he's experienced, he's technically good, he can run. So he's an international player.
IMAGO / Every Second Media"He scored a goal for the national team. He scored three goals against Lincoln. So he has the same abilities, if I think about it, like Alex Scott. So maybe it could be a good option to replace Alex with Ryan Christie."
That is an intriguing possibility for Bournemouth supporters heading into today's clash. Christie has consistently demonstrated his quality in a Cherries shirt, and his energy, tenacity and willingness to press could make him a suitable replacement in a system that demands considerable work from its midfielders.
His hat-trick against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup will also have done his confidence no harm.
Of course, replacing Scott is not simply a case of finding another player with similar characteristics. Scott offers a particular combination of athleticism, ball progression and attacking contribution that will be difficult to replicate exactly.
Nevertheless, Christie provides Rose with an experienced alternative who understands the demands of the Premier League and has already proven he can make a difference for Bournemouth.
As the Cherries prepare to face Chelsea, the importance of having players of Christie's calibre available becomes even clearer. With Scott sidelined and the fixture list intensifying, Bournemouth will need their experienced midfielders to step up if they are to leave Stamford Bridge with a positive result.
