As Bournemouth face a summer of change, two key figures behind the club’s historic Europa League qualification are being linked to specific destinations, with reports linking Marcos Senesi with a free transfer to Tottenham, while departing boss Andoni Iraola is attracting interest from Milan.

With the celebrations from AFC Bournemouth’s historic qualification for the Europa League still fresh, attention has already begun to turn towards what could be a summer of significant change on the south coast.

Two figures who have already made clear their intentions to move on from the club are now being heavily linked with major destinations elsewhere in Europe - defender Marcos Senesi and outgoing head coach Andoni Iraola.

For supporters still processing an extraordinary campaign that ended with Bournemouth securing European football for the first time, the possibility of losing two key architects of that success adds another layer of intrigue to an already dramatic off-season.

Marcos Senesi

Regarding Senesi, after initially announcing his departure earlier this month, multiple transfer journalists have reported that Tottenham Hotspur are advancing in efforts to sign the Argentine centre-back once his Bournemouth deal expires.

Reports suggest Spurs had been laying groundwork for a deal dependent on their Premier League survival, and momentum appears to be building. According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, Tottenham have verbally agreed terms in principle with Senesi and are already discussing a four-year contract. David Ornstein reported that Spurs were in advanced talks for the 28-year-old free agent, while Florian Plettenberg claimed an agreement in principle had been reached, with Senesi giving his commitment should Tottenham remain in the division.

Should the move materialise, it would bring an end to a memorable Bournemouth chapter for the former Feyenoord defender.

Since arriving in 2022, Senesi has become one of the club’s most dependable performers, passing the century mark for appearances and helping establish Bournemouth as a side capable not just of surviving in the Premier League, but competing at the top end of it.

Andoni Iraola

After confirming in April that he would leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, Iraola’s next move is becoming one of Europe’s most fascinating managerial stories.

Initial suggestions, including some from Bournemouth Airport holiday-makers turned aviation experts - hinted at a move to Bayer Leverkusen, with a number of trusted sources claiming that he flew out there for a day recently in the past fortnight.

This may have merely been an exploratory mission though, as the last 48 hours has seen AC Milan enter the race.

According to reports and a claim from journalists Mark McAdam and Alex Crook, Milan have approached Iraola’s representatives over becoming their next head coach. Domestically, interest has also reportedly emerged from Crystal Palace, while previous links had connected the Spaniard to opportunities elsewhere in the Premier League as well.

Milan's attraction for Iraola is understandable.

In three seasons at Bournemouth, Iraola transformed expectations. His aggressive, front-foot style elevated the club from a side expected to battle relegation into one heading into the Europa League. It is no surprise Europe’s elite are now paying attention.

Yet the 43-year-old gave little away after signing off with a draw at Nottingham Forest, keeping his chat mainly focused on AFCB.

"The Champagne is in the changing room, we were celebrating like we should. I enjoyed every second with the fans, with the players, it is so nice to finish like this and to have something to celebrate. I have seen a lot of people who have supported me these three years".

"It’s half term for the kids, I will stay in Bournemouth until July. I will celebrate with the staff, I will go home at least for one week and take my time to make this decision."

There is one final twist though...

If Iraola ultimately chooses Milan, there remains the possibility of an immediate reunion with Bournemouth - with both clubs set to be involved in next season’s Europa League.

For a club entering uncharted territory, European nights may be arriving just as some of the people who made them possible prepare to say goodbye.

What a season!
