Tielemans Move Could Boost Bournemouth's Hopes of Keeping Scott

Manchester United's move for Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans could hand AFC Bournemouth supporters fresh hope that Alex Scott will remain at Dean Court this summer.

Reports suggest United are in advanced talks to sign the experienced Belgian international, who is under contract at Villa until 2028 but is keen on a switch to Old Trafford. The 29-year-old has emerged as a priority midfield target, with negotiations continuing between the clubs.

The development may ease concerns on the south coast, where Scott has been heavily linked with both Manchester United and Arsenal during the transfer window.

Throughout the summer, Bournemouth have shown little intention of cashing in. Earlier this month, the Daily Echo reported that the Cherries rejected an approach from Arsenal and informed the Gunners that the England Under-21 international is not for sale.

Instead, the club are working on a new long-term contract for Scott, potentially including a release clause, as they look to build Marco Rose's squad around one of their brightest young talents. Alongside Rayan and Junior Kroupi, Scott is expected to play a central role as Bournemouth prepare for their historic first Europa League campaign.

Keeping your top talent is a key and understated role for any recruitment department. Whilst fans' will always look to the hierarchy for some indication of new and shiny arrivals at their club, retaining consistency through continuity of personnel is equally as important.

Of course, AFC Bournemouth's recruitment has deservedly earned widespread praise in recent years, but it is only half the battle. The club have learned that if they are to continue competing with the Premier League's elite, they cannot simply become a production line for bigger clubs.

Transfer links involving the likes of Alex Scott and Junior Kroupi are uncomfortable and inevitable - but there must be a willingness to stand firm when the time is right, ensuring that key players remain part of the project rather than being sold at the first sign of interest.

Tielemans's link with United might implicitly suggest that the club have done just that.

The balance is delicate though, because as much as Bournemouth have built much of their reputation on being an attractive destination where ambitious footballers know they will be given opportunities to develop - they also want to be seen to not hold players back, and allow them take the next step if the circumstances are right. 

For now, the only departure from the playing personnel at Dean Court is still Marcos Senesi, and Cherries fans will be hoping that - whilst the merry-go-round of players continues elsewhere in the Premier League - the Bournemouth bubble can remain firmly intact as a historic season approaches.
