Chelsea have reportedly entered initial talks with Newcastle United regarding the swap deal.

Chelsea brought in a number of attacking options during the previous summer transfer window with a total spending of around £283 million.

While Joao Pedro scored a total of 20 goals during last campaign, the other three signings combined, only managed to score just one more than half the goals scored by the Brazilian forward.

Now with Xabi Alonso already confirmed as the new manager of the Chels, the Spaniard might pick and choose while he decides on his attacking options for the new season.

There will be a lot of focus on Liam Delap, as the English striker was brought in for a transfer fee of around £30 million from Ipswich Town, who got relegated to the Championship last summer and are now back to the Premier League once more.

But as for Delap, things certainly took a wrong turn following his move to the Stamford Bridge as the 23-year-old has only managed to score twice this season for the Blues.

Rumours were already suggesting an unfortunate departure for the young striker following a disappointing debut season for the Chels and according to The Chelsea Forum (h/t Coming Home Newcastle), Newcastle United are looking to bring in the Englishman this summer.

The Magpies have reportedly asked the Blues to consider a swap deal for Delap along with a significant transfer fee for Nico Woltemade, the German striker who has also seemingly struggled to make his mark in the Premier League since coming in last summer.

Apparently, Newcastle signed the 24-year-old for a club record transfer fee of around £70 million form Stuttgart and has so far scored 11 goals and provided 5 assists for the English side during the previous campaign.

Whereas, Woltemade scored 17 goals with his former side, in almost half the minutes which he has played so far for Newcastle.

Delap's story is somewhat similar at the Stamford Bridge, following a horrendous debut season at Chelsea despite scoring 13 goals and providing three assists at Ipswich Town, only a season back.

The Blues see Woltemade as a strong signing, of course that is only if they can make it happen this summer but the high asking price along with Delap being part of the deal, might be the reason why the Chels are being hesitant at the moment.

Woltemade is now gearing to represent his nation at the World Cup, as he hopes to make his mark while coming on from the bench for the German national side and Alonso will hopefully keep an eye on the striker during the next few weeks as the Blues look to make a decision on the proposed deal.
