Amidst heavy reports linking the club to Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, Real Madrid have officially released a statement regarding the rumours.

One of the strongest sagas of this summer already - and in truth most of 2026 as a whole - have been the links of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez and Spanish giants Real Madrid in particular.

After the second leg defeat at home to PSG in the UEFA Champions League, the 25-year old gave a cryptic interview regarding his future. Days later, he said Madrid is one City he would love to live in, leading to a two game suspension handed out by the club.

In recent days, the player's agent, Javier Pastore, has given interviews to Spanish and Madrid based outlets, MARCA and Diario AS, saying that the player would like a move to Real Madrid this summer.

Well, the La Liga outfit themselves don’t seem to reciprocate that hope. Indeed not, as the club have themselves released an official statement on the links with Fernandez.

In one of their famous “communicado oficial” releases, Real Madrid had this to say about the Chelsea midfielder: “In light of the information and statements that have emerged in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid C. F. in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any efforts, either directly or indirectly, aimed at signing the aforementioned player and, furthermore, has no intention of pursuing such an operation.

Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely recognized, as well as for Chelsea FC, a club with which it maintains an excellent institutional relationship.

Precisely out of respect for an institution like Chelsea FC and the principles of institutional loyalty that have always guided Real Madrid's actions, the club considers it necessary to categorically deny these speculations, which are unfounded and do not reflect reality.

Real Madrid regret that, despite the clarity of the facts and the absence of any action by the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and only serves to create confusion among fans and unnecessarily harm the entities and individuals involved.”

Wow, wow, wow. Real Madrid are known to say one thing and do another, so you never know, but this is absolutely crazy. When was the last time a club went public to distance themselves from a potential, rumoured signing?

You wonder what Fernandez and Pastore must be thinking right now. Pretty publicly humiliating, right? He has seen team mate Marc Cucurella join them this summer, whilst he seems to now be - very publicly - denied the chance to make his “dream move”. Brutal stuff all round.

Ah well, get the world’s smallest violin out. Maybe him and his agent shouldn’t continue to disrespect the club. In one of his aforementioned interviews yesterday, Pastore seemed to hint at being fine with a move to Atletico Madrid too. Well they better pray they pay up and sign him.

Otherwise, it could be very awkward at the Bridge next season. A player who so publicly wanted to move. Will his team mates be cool with him? It’s not ideal for Xabi Alonso to have a player who so clearly doesn’t want to be here at the beginning of his project. Let’s see what happens, but wow this is just a mad situation. Talk about dirty laundry being aired in public.
