It has been confirmed on Monday, the 18th of May, that two very popular former Chelsea players will be pundits for the World Cup this coming summer
Now that the FA Cup final has been and gone, and the game against Spurs unlikely to be detrimental to their season, the attention of Chelsea fans has well and truly began to turn towards this summer's FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
We are now just 24 days away from the opening game, where Mexico will host South Africa in Mexico City in a rematch of the 2010 World Cup opener, exactly 16 years to the day later.
Across the tournament, there will be plenty of Chelsea players in action. Joao Pedro is expected to lead the line for Brazil, whilst Enzo Fernandez continues to be an important player for defending Champions Argentina. Levi Colwill has been named in Thomas Tuchel's 55 man preliminary England squad, and we will find out on Friday if he has made the final 26 man cut.
Meanwhile, we may also see some former Blues in action. Last week, it was confirmed that midfield icon N'Golo Kante has been named in the France squad, whilst today it was announced that Mateo Kovacic will be in the Croatia squad. To some people's surprise, 41-year old Thiago Silva is in the 55 man preliminary Brazil squad, so we could also see him feature.
We will also see two more former Chelsea players feature. Two players younger than Silva himself. Yet - making the Brazilian's potential feat even more impressive - they will not be featuring as players themselves.
Indeed not, as it has today been confirmed that Olivier Giroud and Cesar Azpilicueta will be part of the BBC's punditry team for the World Cup this summer.
Some may find it hard to believe, but both players are still active. 36 year old Azpilicueta is back in his native Spain with Sevilla and has featured 16 times for the club in La Liga this season.
Meanwhile, 39-year old Giroud is also back in his native homeland, of France, with Lille and has found the back of the net 11 times this season. Punditry will not be new to the striker, having appeared on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football earlier on this season.
They are not the only former Chelsea players who will feature as part of the BBC's pundits and co commentary coverage, as Chris Sutton and Pat Nevin will also be a part of the team. Safe to say these two are much more popular with the fanbase than Sutton ever was, however.
