Liverpool’s midfield planning has become a major talking point ahead of the summer window, with Curtis Jones among the players attracting interest from clubs across Europe.

While speculation over Jones' future has continued throughout the summer, Liverpool's stance has remained unchanged.

Despite reported interest from clubs across Europe, the midfielder remains a valued member of Iraola's squad, with the Reds keen to remain one of their longest-serving players.

Jones' situation became clearer when Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola addressed his future directly.

Speaking during media duties, Iraola said: “I rate Curtis very highly. For me he is a great player. It’s very important he’s Scouse, that he’s from here. I also like the personality. I hope we can keep him, not only for this year, more time.”

Liverpool's Developing Midfield

Liverpool’s midfield has undergone significant change in recent seasons, with new arrivals, tactical adjustments and departures reshaping the balance of the squad.

Curtis Jones has been part of that evolution, progressing from academy graduate to first‑team contributor across multiple managers. His versatility and technical ability  have kept him involved even during periods disrupted by injury.

He has now made 228 senior appearances for Liverpool, including over 153 in the Premier League establishing himself as an important member of the first team squad.

During that time, Jones helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles, two League cups, the FA Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Community Shield. As well as being involved throughout Liverpool’s Champions League runs.

However, Jones is under contract until the summer of 2027, giving the player more control over his future than the club.

The midfielders position carries additional significance as he is now the only Scouser in Liverpool’s first‑team squad, with eight years of senior involvement and increased dressing‑room influence following recent departures.

The 25-year old has operated in several roles including as a number eight, deeper in possession, occasionally wider and most recently full back.

His adaptability has been valuable, but the closing months of Arne Slot’s tenure saw Jones used away from his preferred midfield position. The city centre-born midfielder appeared frustrated at times, particularly during spells where he was not deployed centrally.

Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur’s Interest in Curtis Jones

Interest in Jones has developed steadily across Europe. Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan made approaches during the January window and that interest has not faded, with Inter Milan revisiting their admiration ahead of the summer.

Reports from The Guardian and The Athletic indicate that the Serie A club have continued to monitor Jones closely as they assess potential midfield additions.

Author’s Verdict

Curtis Jones remains a valuable member of Liverpool’s squad and retaining him would be the correct decision.

A reported £25 million offer from Inter Milan does not reflect the current market, particularly when players such as Jan Paul van Hecke who was also entering the final year of his contract have moved for £52 million.

Jones provides versatility, Premier League experience, tactical flexibility and home‑grown status. All of which carry significant value for Liverpool. Allowing him to leave for a comparatively low fee would weaken squad depth and remove a player who understands the club’s identity.

Keeping Jones aligns with Liverpool’s long term interests.
