Jumping from Bournemouth to Liverpool brings a level of scrutiny and pressure he simply wouldn’t have experienced in his previous role and he acknowledged that the demands of managing a club of Liverpool’s stature require constant tactical adaptation and growth.
“I want to think now I am better than I was last year, one more year of experience in Premier League. Now it's a different challenge, expectations are higher and it's a challenge for me as a coach to adapt tactically to new scenarios.”
Liverpool have started pre‑season with two wins from two and with several important first‑team players now joining the tour, the next few games will provide a clearer picture of how he wants his side to play. “Now we have the first steps, the tour is going well, I am happy but we still need to see senior players integrate and that has been quite progressive. We are in a good direction.”

“Obviously like all the others, but with him especially we need a good version of Florian. We know what he can give us, he suits our game model. I see him in a position behind a striker, we are going to start working with him in that position.”
“He is quite complete as a player. We want to add more things to what he already has which is very good. He is in a good place mentally.”

The manager also spoke about Isak, noting that the striker has settled back into the group after his World Cup campaign and is already showing good signs in the early sessions.
“Alex is exciting, he has come in a good place, good World Cup, comfortable. First training here, still early but I hope he can play vs Leeds and have a proper pre-season. Not long but 3/4 weeks of quality training I hope and he is in a good place because he is going to massive for us.”

“It's a muscle injury. I always say one month, maybe less. But it's impossible to have him for the start of the Premier League season but not so long after that.”

“A lot of players have surprised me, younger players. A lot of them have given a very high level in this tour, still have room to grow. And we will recover players, we won't have the same 11 as yesterday for Newcastle. We have important ones from the World Cup who take more responsibility and now it is a challenge.”
“We have bring new ones in slowly, players who know where we are going and can help in this process.”

“Trey is very good on the ball, very calm, he reads the situations well. We’re forcing him in the work without the ball, in the press, and he is absolutely doing very well. I think the timings of the jumps are very good. He is always confident on the ball so we encourage him.”
“Sometimes even if he loses the ball, ‘Try to find the No.10, try to find the No.9, even balls in behind, look a little bit further’ because he can do it, because he is so good.”
