Following months of speculation, the news that LFC fans wanted to hear arrived as Dominik Szoboszlai penned a new deal at the club, but his agent has revealed some key information surrounding this contract extension.
Dominik Szoboszlai has been a key figure at Anfield since signing for the club in July 2023, making 147 appearances and scoring 28 goals. But it hasn't just been his statistics that have caught the attention of many.
His ability to run a game all on his own and drag his team over the line in tight contests has been admired by many in the footballing world, and for this reason, Szoboszlai was a wanted man by many, including Spanish Giants Real Madrid.

Speculation that Szoboszlai was looking for a move to the Estadio Bernabeu was heavily fueled by his current Hungarian National Team Manager, Marco Rossi. Rossi claimed in an interview that playing in the Spanish capital was of particular interest to Szoboszlai.
"[Dominik Szoboszlai] always had one dream: to play for Real Madrid."
This caused many Liverpool fans to grow concerned over the future of Szoboszlai at LFC, as if there is anyone who knows Dominik Szoboszlai well, it's his national team boss, who gave him his debut for his country.
What Did Dominik Szoboszlai's Agent Have To Say Following The Contract Announcement?
However, that is now all irrelevant due to Szoboszlai putting pen to paper on a new deal at the Reds, keeping him at Anfield until 2031.
But his agent, Matyas Esterhazy, was asked about those links to Real Madrid in an interview with @winwinallsports, following the contract extension, to which he said:
"What happened over the last few days [signing a new long-term deal] is exactly what Dominik wanted".
Further rumours that Szoboszlai's agent responded to included the idea that Dominik Szoboszlai only signed his 5-year contract extension at Liverpool because the club had promised him the role of vice-captaincy, following the departure of previous vice-captain Andrew Robertson. His agent dismissed these claims:
"Reports which claimed that Szoboszlai asked Liverpool to be the new vice-captain in order to agree to the contract renewal is absoultely fake news"
Reuters/Matthew ChildsSzoboszlai's agent was then asked about the negotiations with Liverpool, "We started in October. The negotiations were long and quite complicated, but over the last six weeks the discussions became very positive," he explained.
"It was clear that everyone wanted to achieve the same goal, and from there we found the solutions that made everything easier"
Finally, Matyas Esterhazy was also quizzed on Dominik Szoboszlai's desire to remain a Liverpool player beyond his previous 2028 contract. "I think that, through a very high level of mutual respect, we found an excellent way to reach an agreement with sporting director Richard Hughes, and that's what happened in the end."
"There was never any doubt that the player wanted to continue at Liverpool and that Liverpool wanted to keep him, but we had to find the right way to complete the deal"
What Can LFC Fans Take Away From This?
For Liverpool fans, these quotes coming from Dominik Szoboszlai's agent should fill you with confidence that the Hungarian is here to stay for years and years to come.
Not only does the contract extension display Szoboszlai's desire to remain at the club, but his agent is saying things like "There was never any doubt" and that "everyone wanted to achieve the same goal", shows that Dominik Szoboszlai made it clear from the very beginning that he wanted to remain a Liverpool player and all the noise surrounding links to Real Madrid and elsewhere were just that, noise.
