0%Liverpool have officially announced the signing of French defender Jeremy Jacquet. The signing was agreed in January with the stipulation thathe would join the Reds this summer.
The Reds spent £60 million to secure the signature of the 18-year-old, beating rivals Chelsea in convincing him to play his football at Anfield.
In an exclusive interview with Liverpool FC, Jeremy Jacquet has shared insight into how he is feeling about joining the Reds.
How does Jacquet feel about joining Liverpool?
“I feel really good, the first impressions are good, and I am very happy to start here. I am happy, I am very happy. When I see the facilities, I can see myself there. I feel good here, and I am very excited to get started.”
Many of Liverpool’s recent signings have shared the same opinion about the quality of the AXA training centre and its facilities.
It was reported that Florian Wirtz was mightily impressed with the training facilities at Liverpool compared to Bayern Munich, who were also chasing the German last summer.

Chelsea were also keen on the French centre back, but he opted for a move to Merseyside.
“It’s a legendary club, and the football philosophy and project really appealed to me. My family and I believe we have made the right choice, and we feel really happy here.”
The ‘project’ is, again, something a lot of Liverpool’s recent signings have referenced, including Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
I just saw myself in the best hands in Liverpool. I was really convinced by the people here, by the idea, and everything what the club offers me was really good. And in the end, [it was] also easy to be excited for me to come to Liverpool.
Jeremy Jacquet’s shoulder injury
Unfortunately, Jeremy Jacquet’s final season at his boyhood club, Stade Rennais, was cut short due to a shoulder injury.
He may not have gotten the farewell he dreamt of being on the sidelines; however, things are looking positive for the youngster as he claims he’s ahead of schedule to join the Reds on pre-season.
“I feel much improved, and I will be 100 per cent ready [for the start of pre-season] because I’m a little ahead of schedule. I was given the go-ahead to start a programme of training with the group [at Stade Rennais], but it was a bit late to be with the team. But with continued hard work, I’ll be fully fit before the season.”
Liverpool’s pre-season tour is taking place in America this year, with their first match taking place against Sunderland on July 25th.
“I know that the pre-season is going to take place there and I am very excited because there will be the first matches, the first training sessions with my teammates and I hope that it will go well.”
What kind of player is Jeremy Jacquet?
As he said in his own words: "I’m quite an athletic player, and it is often said that I’m pretty quick, despite being so tall. As for the qualities I can offer, I think I’m decent playing out from the back, and I’m fairly calm and composed on the pitch."
Jeremy Jacquet on Virgil van Dijk
Jacquet had previously highlighted how he was looking forward to learning from Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, the latter of which is no longer at the club. However, that hasn’t stopped further praise for Virgil.
"Of course, I’m really excited to line up alongside a great player like him. I think he’s up there with the best centre-backs in the world currently, so I can only learn from him."
"I don’t like using the word ‘idol’, not even for the best players I admire. But naturally, he’s a player I look up to. As far as I’m concerned, he’s one of the best centre-backs and if I want to reach the very top I’ve got to absorb as much as I can from him, obviously."
Jeremy Jacquet’s Goals at Liverpool
"Well, I was just thinking to myself that I want to try to bring back many more of them. I’ve seen all the cups and trophies and seen just how many there are, and I thought: ‘Wow, I really want to be part of the history of this club.’"
"I think that every Liverpool player dreams about scoring in this great stadium, and I really hope that this will happen as quickly as possible."
If scoring is his plan, then he should definitely be taking advice from Virgil van Dijk and should avoid conversations with his other senior teammate, Joe Gomez.
Author’s verdict
Jeremy Jacquet is an incredibly exciting signing. He possesses the traits of a modern-day centre half as someone with pace, strength and ability to play the ball.
He has come across as extremely humble during his interviews and seems like he can’t wait to put on a Liverpool shirt. He was so desperate to put one on that he posted on Instagram a picture of himself wearing the 22/23 away shirt.
Liverpool have signed an exceptional talent. Now it is time to see him shine.
