The 17-year-old talent has been described as "impressive" by a South American football expert but FIFA regulations has delayed his arrival.
This transfer window may have been quiet for first-team reinforcements, but Liverpool have been adding to their youth squad with a host of young talent. The newest addition is Colombian midfielder Samuel Martinez from Atletico Nacional - rumoured to cost ÂŁ750,000.
It was reported that Martinez completed a medical at the club over the weekend and signed a five-year contract.
How Talented is Samuel Martinez?
There is already plenty of hype surrounding the midfielder after Martinez's performances in the under-17 Copa America. He played all six matches as Colombia won the trophy for the first time since 1993.
Nathan Joyes, South American football expert and founder of The Copa Club said: "There’s only a small sample size to go off, but Martinez has certainly impressed for Colombia under-17s."
Joyes added that his three assists in the tournament show his vision is excellent for his age and he will continue his development in Colombia for another year.
Samuel Martinez has shown plenty of promise already at such a young age.
"Atletico Nacional are a club known for producing young, exciting talent, and Martinez very much fits that description," Joyes said.
FIFA rules mean clubs cannot register foreign players from other clubs until they turn 18 so Martinez will stay at Atletico Nacional until summer 2027 - he turns 18 in April.
Who is Samuel Martinez?
Martinez was born in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca in Colombia. According to Transfermarkt he is a right-footed attacking midfielder and is 1.84 metres tall.
He has yet to make a senior appearance for Atletico Nacional but may get his chance next season.
"It's what I love, it's my passion, and the truth is I would give everything for football," Martinez told ESPN in April.
He told the outlet that he was already learning English.
"The rest of the time I spend training and when I rest I watch movies, but otherwise I'm a homebody."
Who Else Have Liverpool Signed This Summer?
There have been two first team incomings: VĂctor Muñoz and JĂ©rĂ©my Jacquet - though the latter was signed last January with the agreement he would move in the summer.
The departures of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konaté means plenty of positions need reinforcements. The end of the World Cup means the resumption of normal business for club football, and there is still more than a month left of the transfer window for Liverpool to make signings.
