The future of Curtis Jones is looking more and more likely to be away from Anfield, as Inter Milan push forward with plans to sign the midfielder this summer

Liverpool's Curtis Jones has long been linked with a move away from Merseyside this summer, and despite at certain points it looking like it wasn't going to happen, recent reports suggest that this transfer is getting ever closer to being completed.

Why Might Curtis Jones Want To Leave His Boyhood Club?

Curtis Jones has been in the LFC system since the age of 9, going through the clubs academy until eventually making his senior debut aged 17 in 2018. He has since established himself as a consistent figure in and around the Liverpool squad, but he has always encountered the same issue, regardless of who the manager is.

Jones has never been able to nail down a starting spot for the Reds ever since he broke through, with midfielders always being ahead of him in the pecking order. And given he is now 25 years old, he wants to be playing regular first team football.

When Andoni Iraola came into the club, he stated that he wished for Curtis Jones to remain a Liverpool player:

Also, the Spanish coach labelled a key characteristic that Jones had "very important" and wished for the midfielder to remain a Liverpool player beyond this season:

"And it's very important he's Scouse, that he's also from here. I also like the personality.

From the outside as least, he looks like a player with a good character so i hope we can keep him, and not only this year."

So, Iraola made it very clear that Curtis Jones was a player he wanted to remain an LFC player going into next season, but perhaps, like the managers before him, he was unable to guarantee Jones the first team minutes that he wanted, which is perhaps why he is looking for a move elsewhere?

What Has Been Reported?

The latest update on a possible Curtis Jones exit this summer is that Inter Milan remain interested in the midfielder, and after previously refusing to meet LFC's valuation of Jones, it would now appear there is more openness to reach a compromise over the transfer fee.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Inter Milan are preparing a new bid for Curtis Jones and he remains a top target for their midfield this summer. Jones' representatives and Inter have been in contact and Jones himself is pushing for the move.

The Italian journalist goes on to say that in the last couple of days Inter have begun studying the strategy of a new offer to Liverpool and Gianluigi Longari has today reported that there is total agreement on personal terms between Inter Milan and Jones, with intermediaries confident of lowering the Reds transfer fee demands and getting a deal over the line.

Author's Verdict

LFC sanctioning the sale of Curtis Jones seems the most logical thing to do, with the midfielder going into his final year on his current contract and him clearly pushing for a move to Inter Milan, reaching a compromise with the Italian side should be the aim for the Reds.

As for a replacement for Jones, it has been reported by David Lynch, that there is a very low chance that Liverpool will look to bring in another midfield to replace Jones should he depart this summer.

Therefore, perhaps the likes of Trey Nyoni will step up and get the minutes that Curtis Jones may vacate, as it has been made clear that Andoni Iraola is a big fan of the 19 year old and sees him as part of the first team in the present and future.
