Michael Carrick aims to secure third place as the Reds bid farewell to departing icons. Discover which stars will return to the lineup for Old Trafford's season finale.

How will Casemiro be remembered at Man Utd?

Manchester United are preparing for their final home game of the 2025/26 campaign as Michael Carrick's Reds welcome Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The 12:30 pm kick off will be the final time some of United's squad play at Old Trafford, with Casemiro expected to get a raucous reception from the club's fans before he departs once his contract expires at the end of the season.

While United were hoping to secure three wins from their final three games, they were held to a drab 0-0 stalemate against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, with goalkeeper Senne Lammens being one of United's only good performers on the night.

With Liverpool and Aston Villa also drawing on the weekend, United just need one point from their final two games to secure third in the Premier League.

Ahead of the Forest tie, there are a few injury worries United will keep an eye on throughout the week.

Casemiro

What happened: Casemiro was not part of the United squad that faced Sunderland, having picked up a minor problem last week.

What's been said: “[Casemiro] will be fine for next week,” Carrick confirmed before the Sunderland tie. “It is nothing major.”

Possible return date: Sunday, 17 May – Nottingham Forest (H).

Benjamin Šeško

What happened: Benjamin Šeško was taken off at half time against Liverpool two weeks ago, and although he travelled with the squad to Sunderland, he was deemed not fit to play.

What's been said: “Ben has been carrying a shin problem for some time and he took another quite big bang on it, he obviously had to come off last week,” Carrick explained before kick-off against Sunderland.

Possible return date: Sunday, 17 May – Nottingham Forest (H).

Manuel Ugarte

What happened: Midfielder Manuel Ugarte was also not part of the squad that faced Sunderland, with Carrick confirming before the game that the Uruguayan had a back problem, but did not give a hint at the severity of his injury.

What's been said: “Manu had a problem with his back in midweek, so that’s the injuries ironed out,” he explained.

Possible return date: N/A

Matthijs de Ligt

What happened: Matthijs de Ligt has not played for United since 30 November, having been out ever since with a back injury and no timeline for a return.

What's been said: “It's different treatment and different exercises. He's in the gym and doing work but he's not quite on the grass and he's not ready for that yet,” Carrick said earlier this month.

Possible return date: N/A
