Fresh from a vital win, Manchester United faces Brentford with key updates on Leny Yoro and Matheus Cunha's fitness ahead of the clash.
Manchester United got back to winning ways under Michael Carrick on Saturday evening, thanks to a superb cross from Bruno Fernandes that was expertly finished by Matheus Cunha against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The 1-0 victory marked United’s first win over Chelsea in London in more than six years, and it also represented Carrick’s eighth win in 12 matches since taking charge for the rest of the season.
Attention now turns to a major fixture at Old Trafford, where United host Brentford, a team that have caused them plenty of problems since earning promotion to the Premier League in 2021.
Brentford have impressed under Keith Andrews this season and sit on 48 points, level with Chelsea, although they have drawn each of their last five matches. Having already beaten United 3-1 earlier in the campaign, they will arrive as a serious threat.
Yoro expected to be fit vs Brentford
The most significant aspect of United's win over Chelsea was not just that it was their first win at Stamford Bridge in over six years, but that they did it with only one fit centre-back available.
Ayden Heaven played alongside Noussair Mazraoui, and the duo were fantastic, with goalkeeper Senne Lammens reserving specific praise for how the pair handled Chelsea's attacking pressure.
Leny Yoro had picked up an injury the day before the side were meant to travel to London, and according to Sky Sport reporter Danyal Khan, he was not in training on Thursday morning.
However, Khan also made it clear that Yoro's injury is not serious or worrying, as there is hope he will be fit to be in the squad that faces Brentford on Monday evening.
Cunha in recovery as Academy trio train
Cunha was also not spotted in training, with the player reportedly granted a recovery day rather than absent for any more substantial reason.
At the same time, Academy trio Jack Fletcher, Tyler Fletcher, and Shea Lacey were also called up to the first-team, with Carrick keen to continue giving young stars a chance to experience first-team football.
It's also been reported elsewhere that young centre-back Sonny Aljofree has been drafted into training amid the absences of Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.
The Fletcher twins and Lacey have all made their debuts this season, with the latter expected to play a much more significant first-team role next summer.
While Bryan Mbeumo and Amad remain the club's senior options on the right flank, there is plenty of scope for Lacey to have an impact in the squad next campaign, particularly with the Champions League returning to Old Trafford.
