Manchester United bosses have finally settled the debate over Patrick Dorgu's long-term position at Old Trafford, a decision that could lead to a change in transfer strategy.
Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu's time at Manchester United has not been one for the faint-hearted.
Sining for around £30 million from Lecce in January 2025, the Danish international was brought in as a left wing-back under Rúben Amorim, although also had a few stints on the right flank, too.
However, with the 21-year-old having been thrown right into the deep end mid-season, his form waivered. However, just before the turn of the year and amid Michael Carrick's appointment as head coach, his football started to flourish.
Dorgu was deployed as a left-winger during the middle of this season and was stunning against the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle, and Arsenal, although a hamstring injury in January ruled him out of action for three months.
United see Dorgu as a winger
Recently, the United star returned to action against Liverpool and Sunderland, coming off the bench on both occasions. Although he has been playing as a winger of late, some feel he may be better suited to left-back.
According to The Sun, United have now landed on the decision that Dorgu is seen as an attacking player moving forward, with the Dane an option at left-wing alongside Matheus Cunha.
Further, it's reported that United's two primary options on the right-hand side are Amad and Bryan Mbeumo.
It has been claimed elsewhere that despite repeated interest from Sunderland, United have absolutely no intention of letting the former leave this summer, as he is seen as a core part of the club's future.
Could this mean United sign a left-back?
It has been widely reproted in the last two months that Unitegd are considering signing depth to their left flank, although they are undecided on if this should be a new winger to compete with Cunha, or full-back to compete with Luke Shaw.
However, if United feel that their left forward options are now settled as Dorgu and Cunha for the coming campaign, this suggests that a left-back signing could be more likely.
Roundtable revealed earlier this month that United Director of Football Jason Wilcox has been proposing Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall as a possible signing in the position, although a transfer would be difficult to complete.
It is yet to be seen whether Hall would be interested in a move to Manchester, while Newactle themselves are planning to offer the England international a new contract.
