Shea Lacey is one of the standout stars in the Manchester United academy, impressing many from the right wing during his short cameos in the first team.

Could Shea Lacey play against Leeds United?

Shea Lacey made his Manchester United debut against Aston Villa in the Premier League, in the same game where Lisandro Martínez and Jack Fletcher were forced to partner each other after Bruno Fernandes' injury.

His second chance was under interim manager Darren Fletcher. Lacey impressed from the right flank against Burnley, almost scoring a 25-yard curling effort into the top left corner. The performance earned him another cameo against Brighton in the FA Cup, but he was dismissed for two yellow cards.

Lacey has not been seen in the first team since, apart from being named on the bench against Fulham, but has also had a spell out injured. Many thought he would be called up to the first team for the training camp in Ireland, but he remained with the under-21s to face Real Madrid in the Premier League International Cup quarter-final

Manchester United return to Premier League action against Leeds United on Monday evening, with Lacey's involvement still unknown, but Bruno Fernandes has been speaking about his relationship with the youngster.

Fernandes reveals what it's like to coach Lacey

Along with Harry Maguire and Juan Mata, Bruno Fernandes led a group of 14-year-olds in training five years ago - a session in which Shea Lacey was included.

Speaking to Times Sport, Fernandes said: "I was actually coaching Shea Lacey. He was 14.

"I’ve told him he’s changed, he’s become a grown man, and he’s listening more now than he was listening at that time!

"But you could see already he had something different than the other ones."

It is unknown whether Lacey will return when the squad are back at Carrington, but he could be an important addition with two games to play this week after 24 days without a game.

United face Leeds United on Monday evening before a trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday night. The Red Devils then return to Old Trafford to play Brentford before a crucial game against Liverpool on Sunday, 3 May.

The barrier to Lacey's involvement

While Lacey is undoubtedly a very talented young footballer, he does not have an easy path into Michael Carrick's first team. The 18-year-old plays in the same position as Amad and Bryan Mbeumo on the right flank.

Unlike JJ Gabriel in the under-18s, Lacey is exclusively a right-winger, although he has played some games as a No.10 under Travis Binnion for the under-21s, but Adam Lawrence now leads that team until the end of the season, or it could be longer

The under-21s regular season has ended, and United have been eliminated from the Premier League International Cup, but will be involved in the play-off rounds of Premier League 2 after finishing second in the league on goal difference.

Lacey will be hungry to impress in those games, while remaining in the first-team picture.
