Manchester United's Amad has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford amid a difficult patch on the pitch.
Since Michael Carrick took charge of Manchester United, Amad and Bryan Mbeumo have shared the right flank, having previously played together under Rúben Amorim. ,
Unlike Mbeumo, Amad appears to be taking some time to adapt to the new system, despite the change in management, meaning a return to his more natural position as a right-winger rather than the right-wing-back role Amorim asked him to play.
While Mbeumo has 10 goals and three assists to his name this season, Amad has just two goals and two assists, with his last direct contribution coming in the 4-4 draw against AFC Bournemouth in December - the last game before the African Cup of Nations.
Before United's trip to Sunderland, Amad was linked with a return to the Black Cats, having spent a season on loan there in 2022/23.
United's stance on Amad
A return to the Champions League means United need the very best from their attacking players next season, so they will be hoping for an improved Amad.
TeamTALK have reported that Amad remains in United's long-term plans, and the club have dismissed suggestions that he could be allowed to leave Old Trafford this summer.
Amad is believed to be happy under Michael Carrick and has privately expressed his delight with the new head coach, who could be in with a shot of the full-time job after securing Champions League football with a win against Liverpool.
"From a personal view, he's the right man," Amad said of Carrick while in Ireland. "He has a lot of experience; he knows the club and has the DNA.
"His relationship with every player is very good. Sometimes this kind of manager can bring the club where they belong.
"It's not the players who decide but my honest opinion is we're really happy to have Michael Carrick as a manager."
TeamTALK say that director of football Jason Wilcox played a key role in keeping Amad at the club. The Ivorian signed a new contract in January, which will keep him in Manchester until 2030, with an option for a further year.
A good player in there
The report continues to say Michael Carrick is believed to be a "huge admirer" of Amad, despite his poor form since Carrick has been in the dugout.
"He's another one, Amad, who is such a dream to work with," said Carrick before United faced Newcastle. "His attitude is so positive. He wants to learn, he wants to keep pushing.
"He asks for more - 'what can I do more?' or 'how can I improve?' He is desperate to do well and has been a huge part of the team.
"It will be the eye-catching bits sometimes, the bits we know he can bring, but, other times, it's his work off the ball, defending. It's huge to be able to do that for that kind of player. So he's got a lot of attributes, Amad, and the way he came on didn't surprise me. He's been so positive all week so it didn't surprise me."
It may take Amad some time to return to his form from last season and the beginning of this campaign, but there is a good player in there, even if he does have to compete with Bryan Mbeumo.
