Manchester United and Chelsea lock horns for a dynamic Sunderland midfielder. Will the rising star fill the midfield void at Old Trafford?
Manchester United's midfield has seen a great revival since the appointment of short-term head coach, Michael Carrick in January. The 44-year-old has jumped the Red Devils into third in the Premier League and a key factor of his success has been utilising the squad to play to their strengths.
United's most recent fixture saw them get even closer to securing a Champions League position with a 2-1 victory over Keith Andrews' Brentford thanks to goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Šeško.
The midfield has been pivotal to their success, with Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Casemiro all having standout performances under the former Middlesbrough manager.
However, with Casemiro confirming his departure from Old Trafford in the summer and Champions League football demanding greater squad depth, United have a huge hole to fill in the core of their team.
The club has identified a new target, after impressing in his Premier League debut season. However, United will face competition from Chelsea, who are also on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.
United and Chelsea target Sadiki move
Sunderland star Noah Sadiki had a stellar season in the Premier League as the newly promoted Black Cats sit in 12th. CaughtOffside reports that Sadiki has caught the eye of both United and Chelsea, with the clubs sending scouts to observe the DR Congo star.
The report describes Sadiki as a "priority target" for United, and with the assumption that both Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte depart from Old Trafford, Sadiki may be the Premier League-proven star to fill their boots.
It has also been revealed that Sunderland demand a high price for the young midfielder, with figures between £43-51 million looking likely for Sunderland to take into consideration.
Regis Le Bris' side bought Sadiki from Union St.Gilloise in the summer of 2025 for only £14.68 million, and the youngster's market value has risen to £26 million according to Transfermarkt at the time of the report.
Where would Sadiki fit at Man Utd?
Whilst United will likely prioritise a clear Casemiro replacement, with names such as Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba and newly reported target Aurelien Tchouameni circulating the fanbase, Sadiki fits as more of a box-to-box midfielder, likely to compete with Kobbie Mainoo.
Four competitions next season would likely call for rotation across the United starting 11, regardless of who the manager is. Sadiki could be the like-for-like swap with Mainoo, who has newly signed a fresh contract at Old Trafford, which will see him stay until 2031.
At only 21 years old, Sadiki's long-term suitability to the club is ideal, but taking him from Sunderland's ambitious squad may prove to be challenging.
For now, United need to prioritise confirming their spot in the Champions League as they host tough rivals Liverpool on Sunday, who are also driving for a top five finish.
