Morgan Gibbs-White's first England cap in a year was brief, but he made the most of the opportunity.
Thomas Tuchel has said that he wants players who can make a difference in his England squad.
Morgan Gibbs-White came on as a late substitute in the 83rd minute, and had just 12 touches of the ball, but clearly displayed why he is in Tuchel's squad.
When the Nottingham Forest star came on at Wembley, his first England cap in almost a year, he provided a much-needed buzz on the pitch.
Checking after the game, it was somewhat shocking to see that Gibbs-White had had just 12 touches of the ball, given how significant his involvement in the dying embers of the game had felt.
A menace down the left-hand side, it was immediately clear that the 26-year-old was going to offer direct threat, as England sought a route back into the game late on.
His efforts ultimately proved futile, but he came close, and with such a limited window to showcase his credentials, he passed the eye test with flying colours.
A huge opportunity
Gibbs-White's inclusion in the Three Lions' squad was by no means a gift, but it did present the attacking midfielder with a significant opportunity to establish himself in the national set-up ahead of Cole Palmer, who withdrew from the squad.
There was outrage when neither of the pair were taken to the World Cup in the summer, and when the manager announced his squad, it looked like Palmer had gotten the nod ahead of Gibbs-White, as Tuchel looked to right some of the wrongs from the summer.
But the Chelsea forward withdrew from the squad due to apparent load management, leading to Gibbs-White's late inclusion - cutting short a family holiday in Dubai.
To say that Tuchel was frustrated about Palmer's withdrawal would be an understatement.
"For sure it is a missed opportunity," he warned. "He misses too many opportunities. He misses way too many camps.
"I can only judge what I witness in my team. For that you have to be in camp. If you are not in camp there is a next level you cannot achieve unless you do it in my team."
After an impressive, albeit brief, cameo against the world champions, Gibbs-White is now in pole position for future England squads ahead of Palmer.
With three more games in this international break, against, with respect, weaker opposition, Gibbs-White can only strengthen his claim to become a regular feature in England squads.
