Brian Brobbey has signed a contract extension at Sunderland, keeping him at the club until 2031.
Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey has penned a new long-term contract at the Stadium of Light to extend his stay with the Black Cats until the summer of 2032.
In the summer transfer window prior to their Premier League return campaign, the Black Cats signed Dutch frontman Brobbey from Eredivisie giants Ajax in a £21.6m deal, and the bullish forward has since established himself as a firm fan-favourite on Wearside.
So far, Brobbey has netted ten goals in 40 appearances for Regis Le Bris’ Sunderland side, with some outstanding centre-forward performances along the way, namely with his winning goal in the Tyne-Wear derby comeback last season and his emphatic hat-trick in the 5-3 defeat at Manchester City earlier this term.
During the summer transfer window, as Brobbey enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign for the Netherlands, Bayern Munich and Manchester United were reportedly interested in the Sunderland number nine.

This season, Brobbey and the rest of his Sunderland teammates have struggled for consistent form, with the Dutchman suffering an unfortunate hamstring injury in the previous international break to further hamper his 2026/27 campaign.
Now fully fit and firing again buoyed by his new long-term contract, Brobbey is desperate to help the Black Cats’ cause with further brilliant performances, and his goals will be imperative to resurrect rock-bottom Sunderland off the foot of the Premier League table.
Following his contract extension, Brobbey told Sunderland’s media: “I’m really happy with the confidence the club has shown in me. Since I arrived, I’ve felt the ambition here, and I want to keep growing and improving as a player.
“Representing Sunderland in the Premier League is both an honour and a privilege.
"Having played my part in helping this club qualify for European competition is something I’m incredibly proud of. It’s an achievement that will always be part of the club’s history.
“I know I still can be a better version of myself, and that’s what motivates me every day. I want to score goals, help the team and give our fans something to be proud of.”

With Sunderland struggling for form in the Premier League this season, having picked up just one league win from the opening nine outings of the campaign, it is a timely and welcome bonus for the Black Cats to see one of their most sought-after talents in Brobbey commit his future to the Stadium of Light project despite their relegation-fearing form.
Clearly, Brobbey has full belief in the direction of travel at Sunderland, and this will hopefully breed a further sense of confidence to the other red-and-white standouts in the dressing room.
Following the news, Sunderland director of football Florent Ghisolfi added: "We are delighted that Brian has committed his future to Sunderland.
"This agreement reflects a shared belief in what we can achieve together and a mutual commitment to keep progressing.
“Brian has important qualities, and we believe there is much more to come from him. Our responsibility is to support his development and challenge him every day, so he can fulfil his potential and help the team succeed.
“We want to build a team that grows together, with players who embrace the demands of this Club and take pride in representing Sunderland.
"Brian has an important part to play in that journey, and we look forward to continuing our work together.”

| Games | 40 |

| Goals | 10 |
| Assists | 1 |
As Ghisolfi outlined, there is still technical refinement and improvement to come from the physically dominant Dutchman, who is already one of the most difficult strikers for Premier League defences to contend with.
If Sunderland are to kickstart their faltering campaign, then fit-again Brobbey will be imperative to their hopes in the coming stages, and hopefully the number nine can reward the club’s continued support with more powerful and prolific performances in the red-and-white stripes.
