Regis Le Bris' job as Sunderland boss is "safe" despite the Black Cats sitting at the bottom of the Premier League with just one win from nine at the start of the season.

According to Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie, Le Bris continues to retain the "full support" of the Sunderland board and chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, with confidence in the Frenchman to turn things around in the coming weeks.

Le Bris' side have suffered a shocking start to the Premier League campaign, with the most damaging defeat coming on Saturday afternoon with Sunderland losing 3-1 at Coventry City in yet another abject performance from the Black Cats in every aspect.

As a result, Sunderland remain rooted to the bottom of the top flight table, with their only win of the season coming in late August with the 1-0 home win over Fulham.

Despite some Sunderland supporters questioning whether the time has come for Le Bris to be sacked, the Stadium of Light hierarchy have let it be known that the Black Cats boss retains their full support despite the barren league form, and have explained why.

Sunderland Hierarchy Back Regis Le Bris

According to Sky Sports reporter Downie, Le Bris remains "central" to the plans and ambition for the Stadium of Light project, and there is belief among the club's decision makers that the man who oversaw promotion back to the Premier League in his debut season at the club will resurrect his third campaign in the Sunderland dugout.

Admittedly, there is recognition from Louis-Dreyfus and the rest of the Sunderland board that recent Premier League results, compounded by the shocking defeat at Coventry, have been far below expectations, which has inevitably led to growing unrest among the fanbase.

However, Sunderland believe that "stability, collective responsibility and a united approach" is the best course of action for the Black Cats heading forward despite Le Bris' side being winless in their last seven Premier League fixtures.

Despite the Black Cats suffering a shocking start to the campaign domestically, Sunderland are unbeaten in the Europa League after three outings, and last week booked a Carabao Cup quarter-final trip to Crystal Palace with their impressive 3-2 win over Brentford.

Perhaps, the cup and European form has granted Le Bris' some much-needed time to turn things around, and now the onus is on the 50-year-old head coach to salvage some standards back in an imperative November schedule.

This month, with the full support of the Sunderland board behind him, the Black Cats host Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League on Thursday, with Premier League clashes against Chelsea and Aston Villa, before hosting Polish outfit Jagiellonia Białystok and Tottenham to round off the inevitably telling month.

Despite the Sunderland board publicly backing Le Bris and announcing his job as "safe", if the Black Cats' substandard form continues in this potentially defining month, the Stadium of Light hierarchy's hand could be forced.
