One of Martin O'Neill's selection decisions has not gone down well with the Celtic fans.
Celtic will be looking to pick up all three points when they take on Falkirk at Parkhead today. Of course, the Hoops' recent form means that the fans will be a bit nervous going into the game.
They will be hoping that the four-goal flurry in six minutes of extra-time against St Mirren has given the team a confidence booster and helped Martin O'Neill come up with a strategy to make sure they find the back of the net more often than they have in recent months. It remains to be seen if that opens the floodgates for the club moving forward.
One player who was instrumental in that four-goal extra-time half was Kelechi Iheanacho. The Nigerian striker scored a brace. The first was an excellent header. The second a brilliantly placed effort with his left foot.
Considering the issues Celtic have had in front of goal lately, a striker who can score has excited the fans without a doubt. So, they were left disappointed when they saw him back on the bench against Falkirk.
O'Neill went with Daizen Maeda in a central role with James Forrest and Yang Hyun-jun starting on the two wings.
One Celtic fan wrote: "What does Kelechi have to do to get a start?"
Another wrote: "Martin O'Neill dropping Kelechi again is atrocious."
A third added: "We need goals we need Iheancho starting."
Of course, this is most probably strategic on the part of the manager. Iheanacho's brace against St Mirren did come off the bench. And O'Neill will surely be looking towards the Nigerian international to play the role of an impact substitute again.
There are two reasons behind this. Firstly, O'Neill might not want to play Iheanacho too much and risk an injury. He has barely started this season.
Secondly, he might feel that Iheanacho is at his best coming off the bench, as it gives him a chance to go up against tired legs. If he starts games, he would not get that advantage.
Maeda starting centrally is actually a very good idea as well. The Japanese international had looked back to his vintage best against St Mirren, as he pressed the opposition relentlessly, forcing them into errors and giving away the ball.
O'Neill will be hoping for a similar level of performance from Maeda in this game and moving forward. This is what he is best at doing.
Starting Forrest is a brave call as well. Just like Iheanacho, he has not started many games for Celtic in recent times. It remains to be seen how well he deals with the role and whether he is able to make an impact, like he did off the bench vs St Mirren.
