Celtic are closing in on their next signing as an agreement in principle has been reached already.
Celtic fans are quite content with the business that the club have done so far in this summer transfer window. They have brought in four fresh faces in the form of Camilo Duran, Kasper Hogh, Mika Baur and Haissem Hassan.
We have seen Hogh and Duran already make an impact. And fans will be hoping for the same from Baur and Hassan moving forward as well, as they settle into their surroundings and get to know their teammates and coaches better.
Those all look like decent additions. But there are some positions still in need of strengthening.
One area where Celtic definitely need to strengthen is between the posts. And it looks like a deal is not far away.
Celtic in advanced talks to sign goalkeeper
According to TEAMtalk, Celtic are in advanced talks to secure a deal for Balazs Toth. The Hoops are pushing to complete the deal with Blackburn Rovers in the coming days.
It has been claimed that the broad outline of the package has been agreed in principle between Celtic and Blackburn Rovers. It is the finer details that are still being discussed.
Toth has been with Blackburn Rovers since 2024. He is also a full Hungarian international, having appeared six times for his national team.
Now, it looks like a switch to Glasgow is not far away for the 28-year-old goalkeeper. That is particularly interesting as Celtic have rarely signed goalkeepers in their prime.
The past two were Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel, both of whom were well past their primes. So, if the Toth deal does go through, it would add a fresh dynamic to this team.
Toth's weaknesses make links interesting
Celtic have been linked with goalkeepers playing in the lower leagues all summer. So, it is quite clear that is the player they have been looking for.
In the past, the goalkeepers they were linked with had outperformed the expectations though. That is not the case with Toth, unfortunately, which makes the interest even more interesting.
Toth underperformed his 42.78 xGOT last season in the Championship, conceding 43 goals. He also had a 69.3% save percentage, which is decent but not amongst the best in the English second division.
His efficiency with the ball at his feet could be a cause for worry as well, as Toth was in the 15th percentile for successful pass percentage and 17th percentile for accurate long ball percentage. That could turn out to be an issue in a possession-dominant team like Celtic.
Of course, there could be a simple explanation for that. Blackburn Rovers finished 20th in the Championship last season and barely avoided relegation. That is not a situation in which a goalkeeper can showcase his best with the ball at his feet.
