It looks like there is a possibility that the Celtic transfer could collapse after a signing had looked close even a few days ago.

Celtic have made some solid signings over the last few weeks. Despite that, they still need to strengthen in quite a few positions before the summer transfer window closes next month.

One of those areas is left-back. Celtic badly needed to make an addition there this summer but have not done so yet.

Celtic had looked to be on the verge of signing Landon Emenalo on a season-long loan deal. The Chelsea left-back is believed to have even been in Glasgow for a tour of the club.

So, there are many who had expected the move to be completed in time for the Champions League qualifier play-off first leg against LASK. That has not happened.

In fact, there has been relative silence around the situation. So, where do we stand on the Emenalo to Celtic situation? Is it still on? Or has the move collapsed?

Why Landon Emenalo move to Celtic has stalled

According to CeltsAreHere, Emenalo's move has stalled due to a combination of injury concerns and strong interest from the English Championship.

It is said that guaranteed appearances would be required to seal a loan deal for Emenalo, who is highly rated by Chelsea.

Also, Emenalo has not made a decision yet, while an agreement between Celtic and Chelsea is still to be reached.

So, the situation might not be as advanced as first thought. Still, the expectation is that a move will be completed before the summer transfer window closes. Celtic are still widely regarded as the favourites.

Why Emenalo could be a good signing

Emenalo is still just 18 years of age and has not played a single competitive game of senior football. So, signing him would be a bit of a risk for Celtic, for sure.

He is an immensely talented youngster, there is zero doubt about that. But will that be enough to succeed at a club like Celtic?

That left-back spot is an important position for Celtic. Kieran Tierney is the guaranteed starter there. But his injury record is well-documented.

In fact, it was somewhat surprising that Tierney was able to avoid any significant injuries last season. One would hope that continues to be the case.

But at the same time, Celtic always need to have a cover option available who is capable of stepping into that left-back spot on any given day and deliver.

Someone like Marcelo Saracchi would have fit the bill quite well. But for some reason, Celtic did not end up signing him even while available for a bargain fee.
