There is some fresh transfer news for Celtic fans, as it looks like the move is set to be completed.
Celtic fans are well aware of how a transfer saga can drag on at Parkhead. The club often take several attempts and weeks before agreeing on a transfer fee.
We might already be seeing that with Mika Baur. Even though personal terms are believed to have been agreed already, the transfer fee is proving to be a stumbling block, even though the gap between what Paderborn want and what Celtic are offering is not thought to be significant.
On the other hand, things simply do not move as slowly when it comes to exits. On the contrary, they might move a bit too fast for some peoples' liking.
There are many who believe that Celtic are too quick to accept offers for their players and often do not end up getting as much as they could because of this. The Daizen Maeda situation could be the perfect example of this.
Daizen Maeda completes medical as Celtic exit nears
According to Anthony Joseph, Maeda has completed a medical ahead of his £10 million permanent move to Ipswich Town.
The Japanese international is finalising the paperwork on his contract, and an announcement is expected in the next 24 hours.
Maeda was Henrik Larsson-esque towards the end of last season. He scored a bicycle kick in the derby against the Rangers, a first-time chip over the goalkeeper in the Scottish Cup final and even in the final game of the season with the league title in the balance.
So, most fans believe that Celtic could have gotten a bigger transfer fee. Even if the club were keen to facilitate it for Maeda, who clearly wants to test himself in the Premier League, perhaps a bit more time should have been taken on this.
Has Maeda made a mistake?
Maeda secured his legacy at Celtic with his performances in the final few weeks of last season. For that brief spell of time, he was as impactful as any player has ever been for Celtic.
That was quite the way to bring the curtain down on his time with the club, which produced five-straight league titles.
Set to turn 29 in October, one cannot blame him for wanting to make the move away from Celtic this summer and try something different. He did not really have anything else left to achieve at Parkhead.
That being said, is Ipswich Town the right move for him? It is notoriously difficult to get promoted and stay up in the Premier League. So, the Japanese international could find himself playing Championship football come next season.
