Anthony Joseph has dropped some late-night Celtic transfer news as the medical is set for tomorrow.
Celtic are at a crossroads. On one hand, it is very clear that the squad had grown stagnant and needed a refresh badly. But on the other hand, it is never easy to find replacements when your best players are the ones leaving.
Last season was poor in many ways. But one positive is the fact that the club found a way to get through the tough times and eventually finish with a league and cup double.
That would be considered a historic success for every other team in Scotland. But for Celtic, this summer is seen as one when improvements are necessary.
The club have been very slow when it comes to recruiting new players. On the other hand, it does look like some of their best players are leaving left, right and centre at the moment.
Unfortunately, it looks like it is only a matter of time before Daizen Maeda's time as a Celtic player becomes part of history. A move is now very much in the final phase.
Anthony Joseph confirms Celtic exit latest
According to Anthony Joseph, Maeda has arrived in Suffolk today ahead of his £10 million move to Ipswich Town.
The Japanese international will undergo a medical tomorrow, before finalising the paperwork on his contract. The clubs agreed an initial fee of £8 million, plus £2 million in add-ons.
So, if everything goes according to plan, Maeda should be announced as a new Ipswich Town player very soon.
The English club have made it back to the Premier League and will now look to stay there for more than one season, something they were not able to achieve last time around.
Is this the right move for Daizen Maeda?
Maeda is going to turn 29 this October. So, it is not hard to understand why he might have been keen on completing a move away from Parkhead this summer.
If his aim is to play at the highest level possible, he does not have a ton of time to do that. And after four-and-a-half successful years at Celtic, helping deliver five league titles, one simply cannot complain about the step.
The bigger question is, is this the right step for Maeda at this point in his career? There is a very realistic chance that Ipswich Town could find themselves back in the Championship a year later. We have already seen how things have turned out for Kyogo since leaving.
We can only wish Maeda the best of luck in his next adventure and hope he enjoys a successful time in England.
